John 1:12 says “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name”, so I am God’s child.
In John 15:15, Jesus said, “I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.” So, as a disciple, I am a friend of Jesus Christ.
Romans 5:1 says, “since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. So, I have been justified and have peace with God.
Paul told us who we are in the book of Ephesians. He called us the holy ones, the chosen ones, the adopted sons and daughters of the Father (Eph 1:1-5). We are the redeemed, the forgiven, the gifted of God (Eph 1:7-8). Peter said, “You, however, are ‘a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people He claims for His own’ “ (1 Pt 2:9).
Romans 8:1-2 says, “There is no condemnation fro those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death.” So I am free from condemnation.
Romans 8:28 says, “we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." So I am assured that God works for my good in all circumstances.
Romans 8:31-39 says, “If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. Who is he that condemns? Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written: 'For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.' No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” So I am free from any condemnation brought against me and I cannot be separated from the love of God.
The more I learn who I am in Christ, the more I realize that I am already a whole person. I have everything I need to have a life of meaning and purpose because I am a child of God. Jesus gives me life in all its fullness. When I see myself through the eyes of Christ, I realize that I am not a failure and I am not weak. What Christ tells me about myself is the direct opposite of what I have heard about myself my whole life. Now it’s up to me to see myself as He sees me.
