Intimacy with God is an essential factor that everyone should practice – it is an art of worship. It is not just about seeking the gifts in His hands it is about building a relationship. Unfortunately, many people only remember to acknowledge God during times of testing, trials and troubles but that is not the way it should be. As His creation we ought to give Him thanks, praise and honor in all that we do. He is a generous God who already knows what you need and will grant it unto you before you even ask or think of it. He is not asking for much from you all He desires is to have a place in your heart that can become is dwelling place. His throne room is always open to receive your offering of prayer and praise do not allow the enemy to interrupt you. People will try to dissuade you but God is your blessed Savior and Rock so don’t get distracted instead stretch out in His presence – He will give you access to His very best. Psalm 18:2 says, “The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety.”
Often time’s people hear about prayer and they think oh, I am not eloquent enough, I am not worthy to go before God, I have done so much wrong will God really hear me? As the leader of a prayer ministry for the past eight years I’ve heard many different reasons why people don’t pray – some people have said I wouldn’t know where to start or what to even talk about because praying takes too long; while others have said when I pray I see nothing happen. James 4: 3 says, “When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.” Prayer is not like a lotto ticket that you buy every now and then it is communing with God and expressing yourself without holding anything back from Him. It is that secret place that only God can occupy and everything else has to vacate that area. Prayer can bring you so much joy and peace in the midst of the storm – it’s not about the amount of words or the length of time you spend praying it is the coming together in the oneness of God’s glorious presence and being engulfed with the Holy Spirit.
Romans 8: 26 says, “In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.” When you are intertwined with the Spirit of God He comforts you, He heals you, He changes the lack in your life to abundance, He delivers you from the throng of the enemy, He fights your battles for you, He changes the doctor’s diagnosis, He shows you grace in your court case, He shows up as your immigration officer and say not this time mercy will prevail and He cancels your IRS debt and He changes your bankruptcy and gives you a second chance. You cannot wait until you have a situation on hand to get into God’s presence you should run into it every day and make it a priority in your life and not just a convenience. Some times you got to just get on your knees and drop that prayer while it’s hot in your heart and the very smoke from it will reach the heart of God. It will leave a fragrance in the holy heavens where God dwell and heavens gates will be opened over you – the blessing will begin to flow one behind the other in your life. Philippians 4:6 says, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”
A few years ago, I was experiencing a lot of challenges but the one thing that kept me sane was my relationship with God. I stayed on my knees because prayer was hot on the tip of my tongue always. I wore a smile on my face and dressed nicely but no one knew the magnitude of my pain. Pain has no color, shape, size or social class – anyone can suffer from it. During my hurt and my pain God was and still is my best friend. Prayer became my bread and water I ate it day and night. I had no idea that while I was going through my own drama, tests and trials which often felt like tribulation God was preparing me to become a prayer warrior and an intercessor to lead a prayer ministry.
I have met people from all social status through the ministry I now lead and the one thing I have found out is that everybody has an issue no one is exempt – there is something that everyone needs to work on, be healed from, be delivered from or be saved from. Regardless of your struggles God wants to have a place in whatever you are dealing with. The scripture in Isaiah 55:6 says, “Seek the Lord while you can find him. Call on him now while he is near.” Prayer is a lifestyle for me and I cannot imagine my life without it or being intimate with God. God will do great things for you and within you and sometimes it will be done around you as well – where He is taking you not everyone will be able to go with you. Therefore, you have to let some dead weight go that you have around known as friends and watch God perfect the things that concerns you. It’s time to make the change and step into your new beginning that starts in the presence of God.
“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14
