A few weeks ago I came across this verse in my daily Bible reading. Psalm 29:9 says "The voice of the Lord makes the deer to calve, And strips the forests bare, And in His temple everything says, 'Glory'." The part that caught my attention was what it said about stripping the forests bare.
Living in Washington State in the Pacific Northwest of the U.S.A., I immediately thought of the time that I and several other friends and family members drove to the visitor center at Mt. St. Helens, within a year after it erupted on May 18, 1980. As far as the eye could see, in every direction, the forest had been laid bare, from the tremendous blast. What an awesome physical example of the power of God, as expressed in this verse.
Just like God's voice can do that to a forest, it also has power to change the human heart. Our lives will be transformed if we do what it says in Isaiah 28:23. "Give ear and hear my voice, Listen and hear my words."
One of the other obvious things was that in the midst of the barren landscape new life was forming. New young saplings had begun to grow. Small wildlife was once again roaming about.
Maybe you feel like your life has been laid bare, but just like the forest you can begin to see God bring new life into your heart and soul. Call upon God today and watch Him begin to work in your life.
