Poets and songwriters write of the advantages of love the second time around. I’m a thrift store gal, reaping benefits of clothing, house wares, and books the second time around. My husband Norm and I often agree that some meals are tastier as leftovers. Does this concept apply to a “God directive” the second time around?
“Then the Lord spoke his word to Jonah again. The Lord said, ‘Get up. Go to the great city Nineveh. Preach against it what I tell you. So Jonah obeyed the Lord. (Jonah 3:1-3a NCV).” I’m in doubt that Jonah found God’s command any easier to swallow but it did put feet to his floundering faith.
The Apostle Peter’s faith was tested and found wanting. He denied any relationship to his redeemer Lord. I rejoice in the reality that God offers his children second time calls that result in second time testimonies. He gave Peter a second chance to follow him. “Then Jesus said to Peter, ‘Follow me (John 21:19b NCV)!”
