A Tragic Blunder

Some time last year I was listening to a panel discussion about religion on CNN, when a young man—supposedly an intellect—stated with disdain and a dismissive wave of the hand, “What kind of God couldn’t find two naked people hiding in the bush?” This was more of a statement than a question and no one responded. The young man was referring to the story of Adam and Eve after they had disobeyed God by eating from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, then hid themselves when they discovered their were naked. Genesis 3:9 states, Then the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?”

It is clear that this young man is not a believer, and moreover he was intellectualizing Scriptures. That is tragic. God is omnipresent, therefore He knew where Adam and Eve were, but wanted them to know that He already knew what they had done. There is no way we can hide from God, and I am certain this young man would also rejected King David’s declaration: I can never escape from your Spirit! I can never get away from your presence! If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the grave, you are there. If I ride the wings of the morning, if I dwell by the farthest oceans, even there your hand will guide me, and your strength will support me. (Psalm 139:7-10 NLT).

On our journey through life, we may experience situations that make us question God’s existence or wonder if He has forgotten us, but those are the times to remember that God is all-knowing and all-loving. He may not come to our rescue immediately, but remembering that He knows where we are makes all the difference between staying stuck and moving forward.

Like a loving father, God has given each of us gifts and talents and instilled in us the difference between good and evil. It is up to us to choose to make the right choices. However, that young man will need to learn is that wisdom is not taught in any university, regardless of how prestigious they are.

If you died today, are you absolutely certain that you would go to heaven? You can be! TRUST JESUS NOW
