There has been much discussion and debate about the shutdown of our Government. Who, in fact, is the culprit of such a bold and flagrant act of rebellious discontent? The news media rejoice in conflict that is exposed through self centered interests; after all, what would they have to write or speak about in a peaceful and tranquil society? The Congress and White House have become a living example of Biblical truths. Jesus addressed His generation as spoiled children sitting in a market place refusing to play with each other because each child wanted his own way and was not willing to compromise. (See Matt. 11:16-17) Our elected officials seem more concerned about defending that in which they believe than being concerned about the principles on which this country was founded. They are more concerned with expressing their own interpretation instead of caring about the needs of those who elected them. Leadership knows how to lead and how to bring unity out of chaos. Leadership pursues what is best for the whole and not a direction for the few. Leadership understands how to negotiate so as to bring about resolve. The Christian should understand more than anyone else how to bring about unity, yet the Believer seems to have entered the political arena with an agenda that can only further the societal division. Instead of understanding “turning your cheek,” it has turned into “standing firm” in Biblical truths that they don’t even fully understand. Every true Believer needs to step back from the blame game and learn how to pray for our Country. The real crisis in America is not financial, political, or societal, but a spiritual need, and until we realize this, it is like trying to put a band-aid on a severed carotid artery. How can we sing “God Bless America” when we have thrown God out of America? How can America claim “In God We Trust” when it practices “In Self We Trust?” Christians need to step back from Tea, Coffee, Milk and Pop political parties and be identified as simply followers and disciples of Christ. Christians need to stop pointing their fingers and offer their hands in love. It is time to stop drawing lines in the sand and slinging Scriptures in judgment and start bringing the peace that can only come through Jesus Christ!
Not only is there a Governmental Shutdown in our land, but Christians are facing a Church Shutdown. There are more assemblies of Believers than Bayer has aspirin. Instead of working for unity and resolve, so many Denominations and Non-Denominational fellowships refuse to budge in their stand of exclusiveness. As a result, the Church is facing a shutdown mode. Potential converts are suffering because they don’t know where to go to find Truth. When are Pastors and Spiritual Leaders going to sit down and work out their differences so the Church can get back to leading the lost to God who loves them so much? Many people are suffering because the Believers can’t seem to agree with each other when it comes to things like Baptism, Eternal Security, the Second Coming of Christ, Gifts of the Holy Spirit, Sanctification, and Church Government. Instead of promoting self interests, let the Christians pursue what is the best way to meet the needs of the lost. Jesus Christ is the answer, not a body of Believers that is interested in promoting their own agenda.
It is time to reopen the Church as well as the Government!
