What if we don’t have it? What if we don’t have what other people have? Do we feel left out? When others have so much do we cry, “Why them and not me.”?
We need this “Happy Thought” when this happens. That thought is that God does not look at us the way the world looks at us. If we are among those who don't have the physical things in this life or if we don’t have the money others have or if we are not in a popular position in society; that can still be OK.
People may look down on us but the Happy Thought, though, is that God looks on us as His children. He doesn't consider what we have but who we belong to.
Since He is the one who has given all things to all people, He knows who has what already but this does not make one person better than someone else. Remember, God makes the rain to fall on the just and the unjust. He gives to all with the hope that all will turn to him as their God and the provider of all good things.
The Happy Thought is that a child of God can feel good about belonging to the King of kings and Lord of Lords. Yes, it doesn't make any difference about our humble circumstances (James 1:19) if we are a child of the King.
It doesn't make any difference on earth what belongs to us or how much we have now.
What matters is to whom we belong on earth.
This makes all the difference in the world and throughout eternity.
