The Spirit of Deceit

Discerning Christians realize that America is facing much more than a culture of deteriorating values, morals and integrity. Discerning Christians recognize that America is being greatly influenced by a spirit that is generated by satanic forces. In other words, although what we are experiencing is manifested in the natural, its origin, or source, is spiritual.

The Apostle Paul explains the origin of this spirit and gives us instructions for preparing for and dealing with it in the 6th Chapter of Ephesians, verses 11 and 12:

11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. NKJV

The satanic force that Paul warned us against is now manifesting as the spirit of deceit. This spirit of deceit is now exerting extreme control over the conditions in America. As a result, there is a serious, likely fatal, war-like separation of ideals and values that is rapidly intensifying in our country, the likes of which has not occurred since our founding fathers completed the founding of our country and again during the civil war.

In the beginning the spirit of deceit was imposed by the enemy to prevent the founding of a country that was based on and dedicated to the principles of God’s Word. This reappeared in the civil war over the issue of slavery. Now this spirit has been invigorated and intensified as a perceived opportunity to bring destruction to what God has ordained.

One of the best ways to determine the extent of the spirit of deceit that is controlling a person or a nation is to compare the beliefs, actions and positions on matters, both natural and spiritual, to God’s Word. One of the best determinants today is their positions on political issues as those positions compare to God’s Word, as it is primarily the political issues that are causing most of the conflicts in our nation and within our government. These conflicts are the result of a wide separation of beliefs and positions on many important matters that threaten to destroy our nation. These major disagreements are a result of the enemy’s success in controlling the minds of many through deceit.

Deceit is insidious. It causes people to believe things that are not logical, reasonable or that make no sense at all. It causes people who are seemingly otherwise intelligent to believe what is obviously inaccurate or illogical, when evaluated against historical information. It causes people to ignore and disregard the proven facts and make conclusions that have been proven to result in failure. Only a spiritual force could bring about this level of deceit.

Our own government has been infiltrated with this spirit of deceit. It has spread largely throughout our citizenry and has resulted in voters who vote based on this deception. Unable to recognize the truth regarding the positions and backgrounds of the candidates, voters use deceit as their basis for casting their votes. This results in further degradation of our culture and values and threatens our future existence as a nation.

There are many examples of this deceit. For example, there is a concerted move within our government toward Socialism, even though Socialism has been proven in other countries to always result in failure and financial ruin. One definition of socialism is poverty shared equally.

Control by deceit has resulted in the vast majority of a particular race voting almost exclusively for one political party’s candidates, regardless of how destructive or detrimental their regressive agendas are to the progress of the people within that race. Though their agendas are based on “change” to a Socialist form of government, these people, who would be among those most negatively impacted by this “change”, continue to support what would result in their loss of freedoms.

The same is true of Communism, which is the natural progression from a Socialist State. The countries that have favored this form of government have failed routinely both financially and socially, as the citizens are reduced to poverty and a severe lack of freedom.

Despite the proven disastrous examples of these forms of government, our government seems determined to take our country into similar destruction. As we proceed further into financial ruin, our leaders are intent on continuing the same policies that have caused our financial deterioration, as though the situation will heal itself.

Where ordinarily our news media should be trusted to fully inform the public concerning matters that are important to our survival as a nation, our media is as controlled by this spirit of deceit as others. Therefore, the public has little means of getting the information that could cause them to protest against the deceit that is being imposed on us. Satan’s primary goal is to disseminate lies, propaganda and misinformation in order to advance his agenda.

What should be the response of Christians to this? Christians should:

1. Recognize that Satan is the master of deceit.
2. Recognize when they are being deceived.
3. Pray for God to give them clarity of thought and reasoning.
4. Actively seek for truth by searching God’s Word and searching beyond their daily news.
5. Earnestly embrace truth.

Christians, most of all, should be mindful of the enemy’s overall goal of keeping them distracted and separated from the truth. His overall goal is deceit, as it has been from the beginning. Therefore, unless we pursue truth, we’ll never find it.

Christians should be suspicious of any news services that discourage them from reading or listening to other news services that have opposing views. This trick is designed to perpetuate deceit. Christians must develop an insatiable urge to pursue truth. Otherwise, deceit will continue to dominate.

Christians should pray that the eyes of others will be opened and that the spirit of deceit will be lifted from them. They should pray for exposure in our Government for:

1. Corruption
2. Hidden agendas
3. Underhanded schemes
4. Backroom deals

Christians must discern whether a government is functioning under divine authority or as a divine authority, and respond accordingly.

Christians should recognize the deceit in our government’s usual responses to serious problems facing America, many of which are actually created by our government. Their usual responses are to:

1 Announce they “are working urgently to gather additional information.”
2 Announce they “strongly condemn” whatever they say caused the problem.
3 Announce that “those responsible will be held accountable.”
4 Announce that they “are formally requesting a full investigation.”
5 Ignore all of this as the next problem becomes front-page news.

The Apostle Paul gave us instructions regarding dealing with this spirit of deceit in II Corinthians, 10th Chapter, verses 3 – 6:

3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh.

4 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, 5 casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, 6 and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled. NKJV
