According to His Purpose and Grace
It was done Intentionally…He gave His seal of Approval without our consent…It’s by Divine Design made by the Architect of the Universe…and we must learn the Objective, the Plan and the Purpose of His Calling on our lives as Born-again Christians. Paul tried his best to make Timothy aware of the Purpose and Grace we have in Christ before the world was created. Yes, it may sound deep for some but not for God, nor for His servants who wish to tap into the Wisdom of His Divine Plan for our lives.
Paul said, therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me His prisoner, but share with me in the sufferings of the Gospel according to the power of God, (2 Timothy 1:8 NKJV)
Who has saved us and Called us with a holy Calling, not according to our works, but according to His own PURPOSE and GRACE which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began, (2 Timothy 1:9 NKJV)
When it All Began
God’s Purpose and Grace on our lives began before the world was ever created. Paul was attempting to show Timothy that this is not about us--but about God’s Divine Plan for our lives that we must catch a Revelation of and remain strong despite the sufferings and afflictions we are encountering in our Christian walk of faith on earth. Paul outlined the facts;
1. We are not to be ashamed of the Testimony of Jesus Christ.
2. Nor are we to be ashamed of God’s servants who are incarcerated for preaching the Gospel.
3. We are to share in their suffering of the Gospel.
4. According to the Power of God.
5. God had Saved us
6. God had Called us with a holy Calling
7. It was not by our works that we were selected for this Calling.
8. But it was according to His own PURPOSE and GRACE which was given to us before the world began.
Timothy’s Dilemma and Ours
Timothy was faced with many challenges as a young Pastor, Overseer and 4th class Apostle. He was with Paul opening up churches in many cities and appointing Elders (Associate Pastors) in different cities. Now, Paul was arrested for preaching the Gospel and Timothy was left alone (in a sense) that Paul his mentor and spiritual leader was gone. Timothy was the Senior Pastor of the church in the city of Ephesus. Overseeing newly appointed Elders and facing persecution, along with false teachers and idol worship, it was a little too much for the young man of God; Not to mention the possibility of him being arrested like Paul for preaching the Gospel all this was very stressful.
Paul had to appeal to him in a letter to remain faithful despite all the challenges and sufferings he had to endure as a servant of God. But I’m not a Pastor or Overseer, how can I identify with Timothy? Why are you teaching me something that should be taught to Pastors Manuel!?!
Paul Timothy and Christians
What Paul and Timothy encountered as they served God is what we will be encountering when we are serving God. We will face opposition, challenges and persecution for being a goody-to-shoe Christian. No matter where we go or what job title we have—we will suffer in our relationships at home or at the work place or in school. People will talk about us and say things that are offensive and cruel. When we try to share the Gospel they will poke fun at us and tell us about their false teachings they came to believe in—and why they don’t wish to practice Christianity. The list of challenges we will encounter is endless…The oppositions will come at us from every angle…This is why we must capture the essence of our existence and then grab a hold of the Truth that it’s ACCORDING TO HIS PURPOSE AND GRACE we were Called to live-by as Christian’s on earth.
Saved and Called with a holy Calling
Paul mentioned something very important that we must capture a revelation of, and that is, we were SAVED and CALLED with a holy CALLING. How important is this fact, it shows us the Phases we must grow through to move in the PURPOSES of God for our lives. Being Born-again to see the Kingdom of God is not enough—Jesus said we must be Born of water and the Spirit to enter the Kingdom of God (See John 3:5 NKJV). Secondly, we must have a child like faith in order to enter the Kingdom of God as well (See Luke 18:17 NKJV). The point is, we must not just sit on the sidelines of Christianity and wait to go to heaven when we physically die on earth. We need to exercise a child like faith in the PURPOSES of God to go to the next level of living a Christian lifestyle on earth.
Being Called with a holy Calling is the next thing we must mentally chew on. I recently bumped into this nice Christian couple who shared with me why they stopped attending a certain Church. They said that it was too legalistic! What this means is that the Church requires certain Christian virtues in order to operate in the Ministry. I said, if you are Called to the Ministry the Scriptures outline certain Christian qualities that we must meet to function in the Ministry. I asked him, what was it that they were legal about? He couldn’t answer! The Wisdom of God hit me and I said, think about this—the Holy Spirit is Holy so if the Holy Spirit is in you then we should co-operate with Him to make us Holy as well. And then I was interrupted by a woman who needed counseling. There are times that we don’t need to give a huge sermon just a small Proverb that someone can chew on.
Paul said it best, for as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God (Romans 8:14 NKJV). Not every Christian understands this principle when it comes to the leading and guidance of the Holy Spirit this is why God had me teach at length about the operation of the Holy Spirit. I encourage readers to read all the articles that were written about the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit’s job is to make us more like Jesus Christ each and every day.
But According to His Purpose and Grace
Paul said, who has Saved us and Called us with a holy Calling, not according to our works, but according to His own Purpose and Grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began, (2 Timothy 1:9 NKJV).
God’s Divine Purpose and Grace was planned and granted to us in Christ Jesus before the world ever began. As we think about that, allow me put it in perspective. The earth is about 13,000 years old according to Biblical documentation by Christian Scientist that dedicated their lives to finding the Truth about the origin of the Earth’s creation and existence. Secular scientist placed an outrageous time-line of 100, 200 or even 300 million years ago that the Earth came about by the Big Bang theory and other theories in the secular scientific communities. I would rather agree with Christian Scientific Scholars about the time-line of the Earth’s creation and existence. The point is, 13,000 years ago before the Earth’s creation God’s Divine Purpose and Grace was already in the works in eternity about us being on the earth and becoming a child of God and experiencing the Divine Purpose and Grace of God in our lives.
Today, we are learning about the Purposes of God as we dedicate ourselves to studying the Word of God and begin grabbing a hold of the Truth of the Divine Purpose and Grace of God for our lives. In my next article we will explore more about the Purposes of God and the Grace of God we have to fulfill the Will of God on the earth, amen. May God bless you to understand that it was His Purpose and His Grace that we are here today, in Jesus’ name, amen.
