“Now when evening came, His disciples went down to the sea, got into the boat, and went over the sea toward Capernaum. And it was already dark, and Jesus had not come to them. Then the sea arose because a great wind was blowing. So when they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and drawing near the boat; and they were afraid. But He said to them, “It is I, do not be afraid.”
At the end of a busy day, the disciples were traveling towards Capernaum by boat when the weather conditions became unfavorable. We are told that the sea “arose” because of a “great wind” blowing. There was a bad storm brewing that night and the disciples were starting to feel very overwhelmed in the midst of it as the darkness surrounded them and they could not see where Jesus was. Receive today’s message from the heart of a Father who wants to free His kids from fear!
It is dark but Jesus knows the way ahead. There are many precious people out there who are feeling overwhelmed and alone in the middle of a storm in their lives. You may be going through a time of infirmity, some family crisis, or difficulties in your place of work or ministry. Like the disciples, you may be feeling the force of the winds, and the weight of the waves crashing against your boat. The storm may feel very strong and powerful around you especially as you cannot see the way ahead, but Jesus is with you and His love is surrounding you. He has heard every prayer as He steps into your boat and says “I am with you” and “everything is going to be alright”. He says “Although you could not see me, I have been walking on the water by your side all along and you were never alone. Did I not promise that I would never leave you? I never did and I never will! Let me show you how we will overcome this storm and get to the other side.” Jesus is greater than any storm and He is by your side!
Do not fear. There are all kinds of fears that arise when we face an unfamiliar situation, but God is calling us to rise up and believe in His faithfulness and His power. You have a history with God which no one can take away. You have seen how He came through for you in the past, so toss out panic and fear from your boat! The disciples had just experienced thousands of lives touched through the ministry of Jesus, and through the multiplication of food. They had come to know who Jesus was and what He did, and this is what we too can stand on and draw strength from when we hit a rough spot. We may even have doubts about whether an open door is from God or from another source but Jesus said to the disciples “It is I; do not be afraid”. He was saying to them that it was He, the same person who fed the multitudes and opened blind eyes, and He says the same to us today: “It is I, do not be afraid”. The Lord works in a variety of ways and you may not always understand what He is doing, but He has your best interests at heart and you will see things turn around in a wonderful way, as you have seen happen in the past.
