I like the chill of Winter; the snow, the ice;
The visible vapor of my breath!
Remembering 'those things silent'; the falling snow,
The hour before dawn....and Death.
Then, when the warming air of Spring
Shall bring to life each semi-living thing;
These days shall make the driest heart sing
And birth occurs in Spring!
The heat of Summer strengthens ALL that lives.
The sun, a toughness and a vigor gives.
Survivors of the Winter then rely on the strength given
From living through a hot July.
But of four seasons granted to us ALL?
There's NEVER been a feature such as FALL!
That time when life shall reach a limbo state,
Preparing for a long, hard Winter's wait.
That time when all must ready be
In order to survive the Spring to see!
That time when clothed in colors bright
The leaves begin to take their one-way flight
From treetops to the chilling ground
Where millions of their ancestry are found.
So...of four seasons granted to us all,
There's NEVER been a feature such as Fall.
When through the Winter of MY life I've gone,
And Spring and July sun, have made me strong,
I hope that in the Autumn time I'll be
Prepared for what may be in store for me;
If I could choose a season life would cease,
If THAT control of life I'd EVER know,
I'd wish that I be laid to rest in Fall,
So brightness from the leaves would cover me.
