In Matthew chapter 15 the scribes and the Pharisees (religious folk of that time) asked Jesus why his disciples transgress the traditions of the elders? Jesus responded by asking them why do they transgress the commandments of God because of their traditions? This conversation was absolutely thought provoking so much so I would like to ask you," Is your church traditions breaking the commandments of God? Jesus quotes Isiah declaring," These people draw near to me with their mouth, and honor me with their lips, but their heart is far from me, and in vain they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men." This is a opportunity to examine your church traditions like Pastors anniversaries, men day and women day programs, fashion shows, various fund raising events outside of the teaching of tithes and offering. Is this vain worship and teaching as doctrine commandments of men? In the case of the text the Pharisees and scribes had a problem with Jesus disciples not washing their hands according to Jewish traditions however; this is Jesus's response," Hear and understand: Not what goes into the mouth defiles a man; but what comes out of the mouth, this defiles a man."
Are we in today's churches majoring on the minor things and are so heavenly focused that we have no earthly impact? Are we too busy playing the sin police not realizing that we are condemning ourselves by condemning one another? Watch what comes out of your mouths because that is how you defile yourselves...just something to think about.
