“To one he gave five talents of money, to another two talents, and to another one talent, each according to his ability” - Matthew 25: 15 (NIV)
Whenever the question of God’s purpose for our lives comes to mind, we often think of the big things such as going to India to help keep the children off the streets; building a refugee camp in Afghan to provide food and shelter for the needy in conflict or similar big things. We begin to set impossible goals.
Don’t get me wrong, people who have the opportunity to do these often make God smile. However, a purpose driven life is not limited to doing the big stuffs.
In the parable of the Talent, one of the servants returned with ten, while the other returned with four. The master knew the value of seeds he gave each; hence he didn’t compare their success stories. The Bible says “…to each he gave according to their ability” Matthew 25: 15.
The moment I began to see how much I could do with what God entrusted in my hands rather than comparing my level of success with others, I began to understand the concept of God’s purpose.
God is not expecting a harvest of seeds he has not given to us. He is most interested in how we touch the lives of people around us including family, friends, colleagues at work and even strangers using the gifts he has given us. That way, we can fulfill a million of Gods purposes in a life time.
