Heal Me, O Lord Ė by Stephanie M. White

Jeremiah 17:14 AMP
Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved, for You are my praise.

Many times grief is accompanied by a feeling of disappointment. We hear of Godís promises for healing; and yet, we have lost a loved one. Does this mean that God ignored our prayer? Did we not have enough faith? Is Godís Word only true for some? Am I not loved by God like those who experience the miracle in this life?

These questions, and more, enter our minds during a time of grieving and we must make sure that we answer them through the Word. God is love; His love for us is the same as His love for another. His promises are not received by those He ďfavorsĒ over others. Healing is His promise, and healing is received Ė there are just some cases where it is received in this life. Death is promised to all; however, with death comes the ultimate healing. Death is eternal healing. As we enter Godís eternal presence we receive a new body that will never be sick or experience pain. Godís promise of healing was not broken because our loved one died; it was received completely.

Our loved one did not die because we were ignored by God. They did not die because we did not have enough faith. They did not die because Godís Word is not true. They did not die because God did not love you enough to heal them. We must reject these false ideas about death and understand the truth. Your loved one passed on from this life because death passes upon all men (Romans 5:12). We may not understand the timing, but we can rest assured that our times are in His hands (Psalms 31:15) and that His timing is perfect.

As we contemplate our faith during a time of grief we must understand that faith is the result of abiding in the Word. If we feel that our faith is lacking, we can know that we need more of His Word. Press past the pain of grief and bask in His Word. His Word will heal your pain; it is the answer you are seeking. In your grief, you can still praise God for the perfectly complete healing your loved one is experiencing now and that you will one day experience with them!
