Rest and plenty of liquids for the next seventy-two hours. Follow up with your primary care Physician on Monday. Your body will fight off this infection naturally. If you give it the time it needs.
Those were the words spoken to me by the ER Doctor. Before I left the hospital I was already thinking of everything that needed to be done. All the things that had been neglected the two days prior to my emergency room trip.
To make matters worse I knew following the doctors orders was going to be a challenge for me.
The question I had to ask myself was why was it going to be such a challenge?
Was it an issue with pride?
Did I feel less of a wife or mother if my domestic duties fell through the crack?
Do I feel bad because my husband may have to do a little bit more?
Honestly speaking for me I think it may be a little bit of each.
I take a lot of pride in being able to take care of my family, my home and looking at things not being done causes me a tad bit of frustration.
But then I remembered;
Whoever gives heed to instruction prospers,
and blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord.
Proverbs 16:20 NIV
Part of heeding God’s word also includes heeding the knowledge He has given to others concerning certain of our life situations.
For me it means using wisdom and taking the medical professional's advice.
What I am feeling is not unusual to many. Most often it’s the little instructions that trip us up. Causing more difficulties in the long run than if we had listened and did what we were told in the beginning.
The more I think about it the more I can see how pride is such a tricky little devil. If left to it’s own devices it has the ability to stumble us.
In my case it almost prevented me from adhering to the doctor's advice and accepting the help I most surely needed.
So I am resolute that for the next few days I’m gonna follow the doctor's orders; rest and plenty of liquids. During this time instead of letting my mind wander to all that needs to be done I’m going to focus my mind on God.
Blessed to know my husband and our ten year old son will help. Even without me asking. Although they're not going to do things exactly the way I would, I have to humble myself and appreciate that fact. Although it may be a few more days before the laundry is caught up I can at least thank God that we all have enough clothing to tide us over.
