A brilliant young actor fearing for his sanity presented himself to a phsychiatrist who wasn't the dullest bulb in the chandelier himself. It seems the actor had lost the ability to distinguish his own personality from the ones he was portraying, a condition that might seem beneficial to an actor or actress at first glance but that could grow into more frightening extremes. Once the young man had described his very disturbing symptoms his phychiatrist, who had seen all his patient's stellar performances, replied, "That's easy enough, I want you to pretend to be sane, whatever your notion of that is, and keep on doing it. Impersonate the one who appears to you to be the sanest individual you know."
