The attractions of this world are so alluring and intriguing. The overlying beauty of it makes it hard to ignore. It's just like a rose. The flower is so pretty and smells so lovely. How could something like that be so bad, right?
But here's the problem, we all know perfectly well that roses have thorns, and the closer to the velvety enticing petals we get, the smaller and hidden the thorns become. That's when we fall victim to getting pricked by little sneaky and very sharp thorns. We know better, but the pull of the beauty is so strong we grab it anyway!
The things of this world are not of God, His Word says so. And never forget that when you play with things not of God, you are eventually going to get pricked by it's thorns in hiding. That's how satan works, incognito. He is not even a fraction of having the power that God has, so he has to work 'behind the scenes' so he can trick us all. And when we fall victim to his seductions, he bites, and he bites hard.
Be careful of your choices you make. Be careful of picking the rose because it's true identity will be exposed beneath it's beauty. Satan and his beautiful things are waiting with thorns in the darkness.
What would you rather do: to have a precious rose petal in the moment that will fall away with a prick to your finger, OR would you rather have a thorn free tree of life that will last forever? Are you able to do without a little beaut and fun for the moment... the price will pay for this choice is eternal life and beauty in the Paradise of God.
"Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world.
And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever."
-1 John 2:15-17
