The Lighthouse and The Beacon

Many people adore the beauty of a lighthouse. They are small and large, colorful and plain, some are isolated and stand alone while others are a namesake for little towns of port. Whatever the reason, lighthouses draw our eyes into awe. Just imagine what we could do for God if we allow Him to use us as one of those lighthouses. When Christ lives in us, we should be just as spiritually beautiful which will draw in the eyes of those lost to the awe of God.

Lighthouse: a tower, building, or other type of structure designed to emit light from a system of lamps and lenses and used as an aid to navigation for maritime pilots at sea or on inland waterways.

Have you as a Christian ever looked at yourself as a lighthouse? Itís not all that crazy if you think about it. God looks to each and every one of us as a lighthouse. What do I mean by that? Well, let me put it this way, God tells us in His Word that we are to be vessels for Him to work through. And that vessel is just as that of a lighthouse. When we have chosen and submitted to God to serve Him, we also give Him promise that we will let Christ reside within us. Well, when we have Christ residing inside of us, we are to be walking and breathing lighthouses for Christ to Ďshineí through. The Word tells us Christ is the True Light that guides us through lifeís troubles and He draws in the those that are lost and wandering in darkness. Which makes a lot of sense to think of ourselves as lighthouses for God.

Beacon: an intentionally conspicuous device designed to attract attention to a specific location.

The light that shines out through the darkness on the waters from the lighthouse is a beacon that shows the safe way back home. When we become the lighthouse for God, Christ will be The Beacon in us to show others the Way home. The stronger the light can shine, the further it will be seen. The more we become obedient and humbled servants to the Lord, the more Christís Light can shine throughout everything in our lives. Are you allowing Christ to shine as a Beacon so that anyone lost at sea can find their way safely home to God?

Even when others are in storms and are fighting choppy waters, we need to open up to Christ even more than ever! We should let His Light shine so brightly nothing can block its power. Sometimes even the strongest of people find themselves lost and fighting one of those perfect storms on the rough waters. We need to be open lighthouses for Christ to shine as the brightest Beacon to bring them home. If you see someone in stormy waters, are you asking the Lord to increase His power through you to help bring those inside those troubled seas back in to comfort and safety?

We must remember that just as our home needs cleaned, the lighthouse (our life) does too! When we keep everything working according to Godís Word and keeping our lives pleasing and clean, Christ can then shine so brightly, the sun would look like the dark of night. If no one cares for the lighthouse and things get dirty, the light becomes dull through the un-cleaned lighthouse glass. Its no different than the windows into our lives, if we become dirty (willingly doing things not pleasing to God) Christís Light cannot shine through us as brightly.

Are you standing as a tall lighthouse of God, keeping the lighthouse running in good order and cleaning it often so that Christ can shine through you to everyone around you? Are you truly Godís lighthouse that has Jesus as itís Beacon?

ďBut in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour. If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work.Ē -2 Timothy 2:20-21
