Desires. Why do we have them and are they necessary?

Well, desires represent feelings associated with an unfulfilled state of being that produces a tendency to want things.

This rationale serves as the common denominator amongst all people (whether a Born Again Believer or not) because we've all experienced a degree of want resulting from dissatisfaction and or lack of fulfillment in our lives.

I believe our desires also house an ability to sum up our true character and integrity for reasons being that we often pursue or respond by action to situations based on a need or feeling of want. This can be confirmed in {Proverbs 23:7} as the writer pens a type of character reference which reads: “For as he thinks in his heart, so is he...”. This scripture can also be used in conjunction with {Jeremiah 17:9} as the Lord says: “The human heart is the most deceitful of all things...” and that He “... searches all hearts and examine secret motives...”.

One can wonder if it's wrong to desire at all and even more so, how anyone's desires would be acceptable in the eyes of the LORD if He Himself said the heart is deceitful, right?

You must know that desires are not only necessary- they are needed as they have the ability to power and fuel our drive and passion to do more and want greater in life!

Notice what David pens in {Psalms 37:3-4} as he encourages us to: “Trust in the Lord and do good. Then you will live safely in the land and prosper. Take delight in the Lord and He will give you your heart’s desires.”

Now let's get understanding so that we can exhibit what the underlying factors are that distinguish the good desires from the bad because scripture can't be used to contradict itself; religion and tradition can do enough of that.

The answer is actually quite simple... motive and submission. We can also briefly establish what makes our motives selfish or unselfish simply by evaluating who the beneficiaries are. What is it that you desire? Who would benefit from it?

It's important to gather the big picture because if your desires do not reach outside the scope of benefiting, aiding or encouraging you only or your immediate family then more than likely the motive is (potentially) selfish.

However, if your desires (though benefiting you) could help do the aforementioned things in the lives of others, then the opposite is true and it's important to know that when your motives are not selfish, your desires are placed by God Himself and Who better to touch and agree with for the fulfillment of manifestation than the Creator of creation!

When Believers' submits their hearts and minds to the heart and mind of God, it creates an intimacy and harmony of oneness as they'll begin to relent from self-will and submit to the will of the FATHER.

Suddenly, they'll find themselves wanting things they'd never given any thought to or realized matter so much; ultimately understanding that the desires so earnestly and passionately felt are not theirs alone, but rather, come from the very heartbeat of God.

It is His deepest desire that His children possess tangible manifestations of the things intently longed for!

And when we as Believers' (both individually and corporately) are able to realize and wrap our minds around the truth of God's love, desire, provision and providence in our lives, then we will be able to arise to the mandate upon our lives- fulfilling the calling and no longer inhabiting in the "spiritual slums and slumps" of life.

There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that such desires paired with the right motive and submission, will effectively propel us Believer in the power, victory and success that God initially intended we'd operate in!
