Repentance: deep sorrow, compunction, or contrition for a past sin, wrongdoing, or the like, regret for any past action, to make all efforts to sin no more
The Bible stresses the importance of not just forgiveness, but to repent sin and to mean it. If you repent and turn around and willingly repeat the same sin again there was no real repentance, it was said in vain. If repenting wasn't highly important to God, it wouldn't be mentioned in over 100 scriptures of His Word. Here is one verse that everyone should know:
"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." -Acts 2:38
