Mary had a little lamb its fleece was as white as snow
And everywhere that Mary went her lamb was sure to go
It followed her to church one day But much to her surprise
No one spoke or shook her hand nor even raised their eyes
It made all the children laugh so hard to see a lamb in church
But when the preacher saw their glee he never left his perch
So the Deacon turned the little lamb out but it lingered near
And waited ever so patiently for faithful little Mary to appear
Why does this lamb love Mary so all the church did loudly cry
But Mary just gazed to heaven above and gave her godly reply
You see our Lord is our kind and loving shepherd even today
He is waiting so patiently to save those who have gone astray
Ninety and nine may be safely in His hands for ever more
That one which has gone astray to His kingdom He'll restore
Do you see, in this flippant rendition of the famous nursery rhyme "Mary Had A Little Lamb", a resemblance to the modern church of today. And have you ever had the experience of attending an unfriendly church ? Well, I've been there and done that, many a time.
Yes, there is much that is wrong that we can point to in many churches, but why do we attend in the first place? Is it to serve or be served ? Is it so we may have our needs met or is it to worship God ? Are we humble in our Christian experience, by washing feet as our dear Lord did ? (1 Cor 12:12-26)
Is it that our modern day church just needs some fervent intercession, and I mean intercession not just in prayer but in deed as well ? (1Cor 10:31)
Sadly to say, today's modern church appears to have lost it fervent love of the gospel.(2 Timothy 3:1-9) And when the church lost this inbred love (1 Cor 13:1-13), did it also lose the love for one another ? (Proverbs 18:1-24).
What's the solution ? Simply put, the church must go back to its roots. Back to its beginning. (Acts 2:37-47) Lost in this Malay of modernism is the two main purposes for the church, 1) to grow the saints and 2) reach the lost.
If you wish to know God, you must know His Word. If you wish to perceive His power, you must see how He works by His Word. If you wish to know His purpose before it comes to pass, you can only discover it by His Word.” (Charles Spurgeon)
So what is your church doing to reach these main goals ? What are you doing to help ?
