The Dirty Little Secret

You are probably wondering why this title would be used to teach a word for the Lord. Doesn’t sound like a Godly thing to speak about among Christians, does it? Well guess what, it may not sound like a politically correct title for church or for Christians to speak on, but it is Godly Correct because God sees everything inside us, even that ‘dirty little secret’ we keep hid from everyone.

When we become Christians, we think we are ‘good to go’ because we are now covered by grace. Which is true, we are absolutely covered by the grace of God, however, it is not a free pass to do whatever we want to do in the world. But people also start thinking, “well, now that I am a Christian I go to church and am a changed soul. But I have this little thing I like doing that the Bible says is a sin and I don’t really want to give that up quite yet, so I will just pretend all is perfect and I will pretend my life is good in God. No one here will know any differently anyway.” But, oh my, how quickly we forget that God can see right into our lives, even in those deep tiny locked closets that contain dirty little secrets. Never forget that we are like transparent glass to God, we may hide the truth from other people but we will never, and I mean NEVER be able to hide the tiniest detail from God. Don’t be fooled into thinking you are sly and smarter than your God, because your slick ways are not even a grain of sand compared to God’s ability. And although you may get away with the dirty little secret for a time with those around you and you may not be called out by God just yet, but the time is coming for that secret to be revealed and dealt with by your God and He will deal with it either now or down the road. You will not get away with anything when it comes to God, no ‘ifs’, ‘ands’ or ‘buts’ about it, God accepts no excuse and has zero tolerance for deliberately trying to hide things from Him. If you don’t believe me, then how about the words of Jesus Christ:

“Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known.” -Matthew 10:26

So many of God’s people feel utterly empowered by His Grace that they unknowingly slip into a self-righteous state and begin feeling they can do anything in the name of Jesus Christ. And this is true, to an extent. The extent begins when this empowerment causes self-righteousness and pride. With pride comes the belief in yourself and that brings the false thinking that the self is so empowered by God, that one little sin will be looked over and not noticed. This begins a process of the mind overtaking the spirit. With the mind being of the world and the spirit being of God, this is what causes lost footing on the path God has put us on. And when the footing is lost, we slip off the path of righteousness that God offers and we slide right off into the path of self-righteousness and sin. Here is an example of what I mean:

A soul is saved, they feel clean and loved, each day they become stronger in Christ, they start feeling good inside-so good that they begin looking at others as lowly sinners, they begin feeling confident in all they do, they attend church every time there is a service, they even go to bible study. They are told they are covered by the blood in all they do and that really makes then feel like nothing can stop them now. And then reality kicks in. They attend the first family reunion since their salvation and everyone is drinking and cursing there. At first they refuse the alcohol they are offered. But someone says, ‘well if God loves you like you say, He won’t send you to hell for just a little drink or two will He?’ which makes them think, ‘well that does make sense, He loves me and I have been doing so well, one little slip wont hurt’, and they take a drink because well, no one here goes to their church so no one will find what they’re doing. And then they go to church the following Sunday and pretend nothing happened and they praise the Lord as usual. But God was at that reunion, God is everywhere, He knows and sees everything; yet they have now created their own ‘dirty little secret’ within them. Here is another example of a Christian slipping. A Christian has been on God’s path all of their life, raised in church and they know His Word well. Everyone at church looks to them for advice and guidance in God’s Word. They are highly respected in God’s Holy place for such a Godly walk with Him. But what those people don’t know is, when they leave that building of God, they run quickly to the computer to their first love, pornography. Or they leave the church parking lot and scream out at the car in front of them calling out every nasty and ungodly name they can think of because they are going too slow and dinner is getting cold. Or, they may walk through their door at home after church and grab up that pipe filled with crack or take those pills to get that warm feeling back again, well, no one from church is here so what they don‘t know wont hurt, right??

It doesn’t matter what sin it is, big small tiny or huge, God has a window right into the walls we are hiding in our lives are transparent in His Eyes. There is no where to hide from God no matter how hard we try. He sees everything, even ‘the dirty little secret’ we think we have kept hidden so well in our soul‘s locked closet.

People listen closely, because time is drawing much too near. Stand up and face who you really are. No one is perfect, and God knows that. But when we try to hide our secret sins and pretend that we are walking our talk, God hurts greatly. This shows Him that we think so little of Him that we are sly enough that we can pull the wool over His eyes any time, any day. How can we raise our hands to our Lord and praise Him as the Almighty One, the One that is perfect and can do all things,,, yet turn around and laugh in His face by trying to keep a secret from Him…and yes, that‘s what people are doing when they intentionally hide secret sins. That is just down right spitting in God’s face and saying, “well You may be God of all, and can do all things, but you can’t see what I am doing cuz You aren’t good enough to see me do it.”

It is time to stand up and face God and confess your ‘dirty little secret’ and repent it now! Don’t wait, because your tomorrow is not promised and if you do see tomorrow it could be the day of Christ’s return to rapture His Own. If you didn’t wake tomorrow and had to face God, what would you say when He brings in front of you your dirty little secret?

If you have dirty little secrets hidden from God, you are not just committing the sin of the secret, you are also telling God that you are better than He is because you can hide the secret from His sight. And trust me, God will not tolerate such flip attitude, not by any means. And there is no excuse, not even if someone says, ’well, I didn’t realize it was a bad thing to hide it’ or ’well, I will tell God about it tomorrow, I’m just not ready or strong enough yet’. No excuse will give you a free pass for what you’ve done. If you think He will just let it pass and do nothing about it, you are sadly mistaken and your fate will be seeing a side of God that you don’t want to see.

Keeping a hidden secret from God is no different than living lukewarmly. You are living part in the world and part for God and He will not accept that way of living. That means, you are sinning willfully and know you are sinning, yet keeping one foot on God’s path because you think that will be good enough. It’s not good enough and it is very demeaning to God to think that way. If God intended to allow sin, large or small, hidden or not, he wouldn’t have given us His Word, the Bible, for a guide to live by and there is nothing that says you can sin if you want to without repentance and get away with it. Doubt what I say? Then here is the scripture:

“I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.”
-Revelation 3:15-19

Stop pretending you are something you are not because it is doing you no good. It is not people you need to impress, it is God you must please and impress and by keeping a ‘dirty little secret’ you are definitely not impressing and pleasing your God. And if you are not confessing this secret because you don’t want to face the repercussions in your life, then I guess you are thinking more about your life now than your eternal fate, because protecting this life by disobeying God will surely bring you an eternal fate that will not be of Light and Life.

Unlock your closet and open the door, stand up and be a child of God, face your Holy Father and confess your secret sin, ask forgiveness through Jesus Christ our Lord and REPENT that sin to never commit it again.

Praise be to God and Christ Jesus.
