“Thou art my hiding place and my shield: I hope in thy word.” (Psalms 119:114 KJV)

“...hope in thy word.” This gives the impression that everything else is either in the process of changing or about to change. Book after book has been written on helping people to deal with the challenges that change involves. Yet, there is something very comforting in knowing that even change is rooted in a core principle that guides, limits, shapes, or gives value to the change. There seems to be a distinction between change in the sense of expansion from an original core and change in the sense of a blob moving in an aimless direction taking on a completely new form without some type of root system. Even with judicial appointments, there is quite a difference between appointing (or electing) a judge that can deal with new cases yet still has a core foundation and a judge who is interested in rebuilding the entire model from the ground up.

To hope in the Word of God attaches both our present and our future to a core trust that we have in Jesus. A faith that assures us there is more to this picture that has yet to be seen. We are not exempt from changing times, but we walk through those times rooted in the Word of God. We do not hide in His Word to avoid changing times. We hide in His Word that it may provide us with the nourishment and understanding to navigate the changing times. His Word is our life line similar to an astronaut's air hose in space.

“Depart from me, ye evildoers: for I will keep the commandments of my God.” (Psalms 119:115 KJV)
