Buy Truth and do not sell it! 876 words
By Robert Schaetzle
Proverbs 23:23 share’s this, ‘Buy truth and do not sell it; buy wisdom, instruction, and understanding.’ When we look across the canvas of our society today in our land and around the world, what do we see? Do we view a picture in the heart of the people of our nation with an image of integral honesty, blessed with hope, or is it despair?
One of the very reasons I personally do not view too much nightly news or any other media network television is to literally keep distant from all what the media displays as issues of importance. But if we’re intellectually honest with ourselves much of what is presented over the airwaves is not essential for you or me to be feeding on daily.
I feel today most journalists make themselves out to be psychology majors more than journalists, the way the media plays too much on emotional frenzy and hype, psychoanalyzing rather than presenting news. Presenting the media accurately in wanting discernment about truth, takes much wisdom when it comes to intellectual honesty. When looking further into matters, there has been retracting of misinformation.
Still, we’re not to put our head in the sand and not be aware and properly informed.Quite the contrary, even as Peter warns us; ‘But also for this reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self control, to self control perseverance, to perseverance godliness.’[2 Peter 1:5-6]
Seek more truth and self control rather than half truth. Being sober in mind and diligent to discern what news is truly essential and accurate.
Direct you’re Mind in the Way
Proverbs 23:19 shares, ‘Hear my son, and be wise; and guide your heart in the way.’ Now most of us understand the life of Saul of Tarsus before his Damascus road experience as he was out to destroy those new believers in Jesus known as ‘followers of the Way.’[Ref; Acts 9:1-2] Saul set out breathing threats of murder against those who received a new Spirit awakening and transformation. Here’s where we must be courageous and strong in trust, with regard to our witness to events going on about us in the world today.
In truth there is much bloodshed occurring. We cannot help but indentify what is happening around the world and here at home. Many thousands today who wear the name Christian suffer dearly and give their all rather than deny their faith to do what is proper.
There is a great separation of those who are truly doing without and suffering a persecution for seeking Christ, as opposed to those fighting one another in seeking self worth by means of mankind’s reasoning of false religious value. The various religious wars viewed on nightly news in the media from around the world, also reveals persecution and much bloodshed, but for whose honor?
Who and what are we to uphold in our walk of faith? Should it not be seeking after those things above where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God? Buying God’s truth in our walk of faith can be costly, so hang onto it and do not sell it, that is don’t give into false representation.
What Jesus told the Jews 2000 years ago still holds for us today. ‘Jesus then said to the Jews who had believed in Him, “If you continue in My word you are truly My disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”’ [John 8:31-32]
We wouldn’t consider giving away or selling some special family heirloom or treasure that means so much to us. We shouldn’t be so casual in selling our hearts and minds into what and who we listen to from the media.
Giving us what we deserve
Further down in Proverbs 24:12 our Lord shares, If you say, “Behold, we did not know this.” Does not He who keeps watch over your soul know it, and will He not requite man according to his work?”
We know that God will bless or take away from the one who will not obey His will. I pray often for myself and for loved one’s to come and seek Godly Spiritual wisdom and discernment to our way for living. All we like sheep can go astray and for the hope before us… my prayer is the season apart from God’s will be short.
The Psalmist declares from Psalm 37, ‘Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart, commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him, and He will act.’ [Psalm 37:4-5]
When we learn to dedicate each day to God our confidence in Him, He will provide the desire of our heart. Be mindful it is for His honor and will, not for selfish or covetous ambition. Our new life in Jesus is just that, His will be done on earth as it is in heaven. What we are about and how we walk each day truly reveals how God will either requite us, or bring calm, blessing and hope. For sure, buying truth takes much discernment, and wisdom, to obtain correct and proper knowledge for our soul.
