From time to time people do need prayer support from friends and sometimes from new people that they think can help them. I think over the last few weeks we have had a prayer request from world leaders to pray for one of the revolutionaries of our time and a champion for freedom, Nelson Mandela. Multitudes are definitely praying and its a wonderful thing. The world of course still waits for his full scale recovery.
One of things that I have observed is that many people do send emails and write to many ministries with prayer requests and sometimes with offerings etc. In some cases people are being asked to send prayer requests accompanied by offerings or 'seed' money. Reports continue to come out that in some cases those requests are not being prayed for. How sad!
I would imagine the best place to be is to find friends or people that one is close and pray in agreement with them or in times where all is well have prayer partners. People that one can pray with or even pray for regularly. I have noticed that there are now a lot of prayer calls occurring each week. People call in to a number and talk about a few things before launching into prayer. Not only that but many people are also hosting Skype Prayer calls. This is the season we are in, people are taking advantage of these modern technologies to further and advance the purposes of God for their lives and also for their families etc.
Although I do beleive its okay to send prayer requests to ministries etc, I do beleive its better to send them to people that you know that you are close to and that genuinely care about you. This also involves one responding to prayer requests from others, when others send prayer requests your way, you being able to respond and other do take time to pray and not just tweet or send an email saying 'sending prayers for you'.
One other thing is that revelation is progressive, cumulative etc. So whilst the modes and methods of prayer will always be rooted in the word of God, new revelation continues to pour out. So I think its always good to constantly be open to new revelation and of course one constantly beefing up their spiritual life. In the same way that corporate leaders and trainers continue to educate themselves about business etc. Its a crucial hour and a quick search on Amazon indicates that people are really learning and going deeper in their spiritual walk. One of the hot niches that people are spending money on on Amazon and major book retailers is the area of spirituality and spiritual warfare.
I get the sense that people are tired of motivational speeches on pulpits. People want real and lasting change and ways and methods of combating challenges. This is why I believe there is an increase in demand for Spiritual Warfare material. People now want to get a Prophetic Word from God directly and have a prophet only confirm and some mature ones can now reject prophecies depending on what God has told them. Rather than send a prayer request to this person or that person, many people want to pray for themselves and get their own breakthroughs!
One of the key things about today is the need for prayer. Prayer is now needed more than before. This can sound strange but a few people are now praying for their businesses. Was seating in a business seminar a while ago, and one of the speakers talked about one businessman who has a resort interstate, how he has three full time staff who pray for his business! One ministry based in Melbourne, meets every Wednesday morning and prays for Melbourne Businesses! They have two locations, one in the city and one in the east.
This means people are waking up to the reality of the need for prayer. Of course one of the key things is to understand the prevailing dynamics in today's society and pray accordingly.
So its paramount to learn how to pray effectively not only for oneself but for others. Prayer works and if you have never tried it, as we say in Australia, "have a go". Stay blessed.
