I notice more and more the activity of people going to and fro, always in a hurry, and playing with their cell phones or ipods. They are in their own little world, at times completely unaware of what is going on around them, with so much stuff to occupy their time. Relationships with others are too often replaced with the "busyness" of electronic media.
Activity has pervaded people's lives to the point to where it would seem that there is a contest to see who can have the most busy life, but sometimes it is a busyness that is not really going anywhere and not accomplishing anything.
How many people stop to think about what life really is? Is there coming a time when something dramatic will happen to change the busyness of life? What I am about to share with you cannot be proven, but neither could you disprove it either, and wouldn't you rather be on the side of presuming that it will happen and be ready, than to brush it aside and be caught by surprise? At that moment in time, for a fraction of a second, individual lives and world events will come to a halt. Are you ready to hear what this busyness-stopping event will be?
I Corinthians 15:52 records "in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye... the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed." The "we" refers to true, genuine believers in the Lord Jesus Christ. The next verse informs us that the change will be from mortal to immortal. This event is further expounded upon in I Thessalonians 5:2-3, where it says, "...the day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night. While they are saying, 'peace and safety', then destruction will come..." Can God make this event happen this quickly? Yes! He did it once before with the world-wide flood of Noah's time, and He can do it again, and guess what, the world conditions and human hearts are becoming like those in the days of Noah.
Enough said! How about you? Are you so busy and think that things are always going to be the same, that Jesus' return will overtake you like a thief in the night? Will you be caught by surprise and won't even know what happened? Are you so busy that you are not alert to what could happen to change everything? What will happen to you when Jesus comes in the "twinkling of an eye?"
It WILL happen; it is only a matter of time. Have you fallen asleep and become drunk with the activity of life, or will you be alert and sober to the soon return of Christ?
WHY will this happen? Before the flood, in Genesis 6, mankind rejected God, went his own way, and messed up. God started over again after the flood. Each time God intervenes in world events, He is giving people another opportunity to accept His love, grace, and forgiveness. If they do not, judgment will fall! Don't let it fall upon you.
