It is common to hear of families fighting over inheritances after the death of a loved one, though the fighting itself might cause one to question the depth or nature of the love for the departed one who would likely be loath to be the cause or occasion of such unrest. But there is another place where fighting for an inheritance is expected and praiseworthy. Just as Joshua expected the children of Israel to fight with God's help for their inheritance within the Promised Land, so our New Testament Yeshua expects us to fight with His help for our spiritual inheritance. For this inheritance we don't fight each other, we fight what Paul called the "good fight" against the enemies of the soul, and the weapons of this warfare are not earthly ones. Though some of this inheritance might "land in our lap" (and how to be appreciated when it does) most of it does not, and this embattled latter portion deepens our enjoyment of the former portion! Paul exhorted Timothy to use the prophecies made concerning himself (Timothy) to "wage the good warfare." That is one example of a key weapon at our disposal.
