I'm a good person, as the way I think. I have good job, good house, Child(ren). I have the perfect life, or do I.
Too often we consider our lives to be "good" or "bad" based on the lives of others that are around us. We tend to always compare our lives to someone we look at as "I want that for my life". If it's the house, the car, the pool, whatever it may be too many look to others for approval and that causes us to be someone that we are not called to be to be someone that God has not planned for us.
We need to live in a way that in according to Gods will and plan for us. Just because someone has something of this world, this does not mean they have the happiness that God has planned for them. It's when we are trying to make our plans and force our own will in our lives that I believe we will have additional challenges. Can we overcome them? Yes, of course we can, only because human willpower is a powerful thing. This still does not take away the fact that we may be going against the Will of God.
God will allow us to drive our car right into a wall, if so choose. He has a plan for us that will still have challenges, tests, and tribulations but if we truly give our lives to Him as daily ask for clear direction and for His Will to be done in our lives we will direct our paths.
"Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. I have taken an oath and confirmed it, that I will follow your righteous laws. I have suffered much; preserve my life, Lord, according to your word. Accept, Lord, the willing praise of my mouth, and teach me your laws. Though I constantly take my life in my hands, I will not forget your law. The wicked have set a snare for me, but I have not strayed from your precepts. Your statutes are my heritage forever; they are the joy of my heart. My heart is set on keeping your decrees to the very end."
So when you dig in to God's word we can see that maybe we have been trying to make my own path and we have not had a light to shine on the path to lead us through the darkness. Although on the surface we may look to have the wonderful life, however, so many are hurting and seeking things outside of Gods will. So again, how do we know what Gods will is for us. What is Gods calling for our lives? " For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
"God will instruct him in the way chosen for him."
" You are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light."
" For we are God's workmanship ("valuable masterpiece"), created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."
There was a family that lived a wonderful life; they had the house, the cars, the friends and the bank account to show how wonderful their life was. Their daily activities were focused on the "me and I" mentality. That was all they wanted in life, freedom to do as they wanted, when they wanted, and how they wanted. No rules to hold them back from what they wanted to do. (The thing is God also had a plan for them, as he had a plan for us before we were born. "For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, they are plans for good, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope." Regardless of our own free will and living for "Me and I" He can and will interject His Will in someone's life when the timing is perfect in His way.) This couple had a child and turned their selfish, self-centered life upside down in their eyes. What they could not see was this was an opportunity for them to see the world in a new light in a new way that they have never seen it before. To be givers, and no longer takers, to be selfless and no longer selfish as they were. They were blinded by their own selfishness, worried about what the baby would do to the perfect body that she had worked so hard to get, about all the time away from the gym and the basketball court the child would take away from him. They contemplated an abortion but after some thought they said they would keep the child and work around the child. They still have the thought of the child being a burden in place of a blessing.
Midway through the pregnancy they found out that their child was going to be a special needs child. Their perfect life that was already about to be burdened was about to get even more cumbersome. The thought of all the time that this child would need was almost too much for them to bear.
The Child was born and God gave them a beautiful boy, blind and handicapped. She wept and raised her fist to the heavens and cursed God for what He had done. What she did not know was that this was ALL part of his plan. ("For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,")
"Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near. Let the wicked forsake their ways and the unrighteous their thoughts. Let them turn to the Lord, and he will have mercy on them, and to our God, for he will freely pardon. "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord."
"As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it."
Why would God send a selfish family a special needs child? Again, His ways are higher than our ways.
You see now it was up to the new mother and father to and their free will to make the right choice. God has left it for them to choose His path. Life went on and it was hard for them at first, but they adapted. One day they found themselves looking at each other realizing that in all the time they were together they never really got to even know each other because they were always so consumed in their own life that they never were able to or even concerned to truly know the other person. It was through this Child that God blessed them with that cause them to slow down and see the world around them. The problem was they did not know each other; sure they did on the surface, but nothing with meaning to it. This Child was the means of a new beginning for their life. To be able to start over, and put others before themselves as they have always been called to do as part of Gods will for them. "Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others". (Again, His ways are higher than ours.) As time went on and the child needed more and more devoted attention the father could no longer deal with all the pressure and demands on his life, when all along it was God looking to this man to see there was so much to the world than just him and his wants, not needs but wants. The Father left, and the mother was devastated and broken that this man would leave her to do everything for the child that God had blessed her with. Now that she was broken in her soul, she was no longer yelling at God, this time she was crying out to Him and in place of raising her fist at Him she had open arms asking for His help and that He would hear her cries. He heard her cries ("I love the Lord, for he heard my voice; he heard my cry for mercy. Because he turned his ear to me, I will call on him as long as I live.") and blessed her as this was part of His plan for her before she was born. The father was to be a part of this plan also but he made choices to walk away from Gods open arms instead of running into them. God brought her someone that He handpicked just for her, and a he accepted her and her child as they were. He was a man of Christ and taught and led both her child and her to God. The father that chooses his own path was empty, unfulfilled for the remainder of his life. Sure he had moments of pleasure, but what is a moment when we are talking about a lifetime and moreover an entirety. God gave this man ample time to change his ways but he was hardened in his ways, unwilling to change.
She could have taken the same path as the man at the beginning of the journey that God was placing her on but if she did she would have never seen the light that entered into her heart and changed her view on life. Life at time is filled with struggles and tribulations and we may want to run from them because of our fear. This is when we have to stop and cry out to God for direction and trust His word will be the light on the path we are to take. Follow Him, Listen to Him, Let Him be the potter and you the clay and He will mold you into what you are called to be. He knows of every hair on your head.
Let the Lord provide you the prefect life!
"So do not be afraid of them, for there is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known. What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight; what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the roofs. Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell. Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father's care. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.
From the book Psalms
I love the Lord, for he heard my voice;
he heard my cry for mercy.
Because he turned his ear to me,
I will call on him as long as I live.
The cords of death entangled me,
the anguish of the grave came over me;
I was overcome by distress and sorrow.
Then I called on the name of the Lord:
"Lord, save me!"
The Lord is gracious and righteous;
our God is full of compassion.
The Lord protects the unwary;
when I was brought low, he saved me.
Return to your rest, my soul,
for the Lord has been good to you.
For you, Lord, have delivered me from death,
my eyes from tears,
my feet from stumbling,
that I may walk before the Lord
in the land of the living.
I trusted in the Lord when I said,
"I am greatly afflicted";
in my alarm I said,
"Everyone is a liar."
What shall I return to the Lord
for all his goodness to me?
I will lift up the cup of salvation
and call on the name of the Lord.
I will fulfill my vows to the Lord
in the presence of all his people.
