 Giorgio Lucchesi

Bitter root of anger springing

Sown from seeds of sin and strife

Soul-defiling, trouble bringing

Choke and stifle, vital life

Terrifying prayer to pray

Search and know my heart, today

Grapes of gall, malefic cluster

Yield of wormwood's toxic root

No amount of strength, I muster

Can transform, or halt the fruit

Cure the wormwood and the gall

Lest from God's own grace, I fall

Root of venom and vexation

Growing, spreading, every day

Threatening a firm foundation

Snatching peace and joy, away

Without mercy, pierce and wound

Pour this gall, out on the ground

Shatter bands of dark oppression

From all terror, bring relief

Grant the faith, to take possession

Help my wretched unbelief

Nothing good of self, have I

Cleanse me Saviour, or I die

Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled ~ Hebrews 12:!5

Grapevines have always challenged me, whether driving through Europe or owning my own vines. A few years back, I had two Black Hamburg vines which I grew in my polytunnel.  They produced fruit, but it was bitter and small.  I remember God using these vines and the fruit to speak to me.  I find this painting by Lucchesi unique and mystifying.  There is but one vine, yet it appears to be producing three different varieties of grapes.  Not possible!  It causes me to ponder again this week, the Tree of Life in Revelation which bears twelve different fruits.  Oh God, teach me to abide.

I don't even know how many times i have been in the same agony. Sometimes all i had was an almost invisible tiny light at the end of a long dark tunnel. Hang in there, you are not alone, it is all part of the trials that purify and refine...love your poems, they touch the places my heart has been, and will be again, as God in His mercy treats me as a child, worth His time to love and train and purify....bless you
