She called to say “You were on my heart today.”
God placed me there and asked that she would pray.
What an unexpected gift, a pure way to extend a hand.
God’s spirit is unlimited by time or space or land.
But do these friends truly know who we are?
How we were made, from where came this or that scar?
Do they notice what makes us laugh, or understand the depths of our cries?
Can they accept our faults and perceive where our greatest gift still lies?
I dare to speak of a bond deeper than a phone call,
a knowing of a need not preceded by a fall.
The Spirit moves us to compassion far beyond a mindful thought.
God knits His own together by His truth that we have sought.
So when she called in peace and love,
and offered her hand to pray.
God’s Holy Spirit breathed on us both.
We were on His heart today.
