A Woman OF Strength
Strength is a definite quality we must have if we are to be the virtuous women God has called and ordained us to be.
As we continue to look at our text (proverbs 31:10-31) verse 17 says – she girds herself with strength and strengthens her arms. Verse 25 says – Strength and honor are her clothing. Now the word strength means boldness, loud, might, power, and strong. The word “gird” means to put on as a belt or armor and the word loins means the waist or small of the back. We could read this verse like this – she puts on strength like a belt around her waist. What is a belt used for and why would she be putting on strength like a belt? First, a belt is used to hold something up, in the natural we would wear a belt to hold up our pants or skirt to keep them from falling off because they are too big. Likewise, so it is in the spiritual, we put on strength like a belt to hold us up when we are facing things that are too big for us. Which brings me to my next question, whose strength is it that’s holding us up? Ephesians 6:10 says – Finally my brethren be strong in the Lord and in the power of his might. The word might also mean strength, so our strength comes from God and not ourselves. God gives us the strength we need every day to be able to do whatever it is he has called us to do.
