Are You Afraid of the Dark?
Psalm 119:105) Your word is a lamp for my feet, ~{~} a light on my path.
I am terrified of the dark and all that lurks there in. I imagine bludgeoners hiding in the bushes, waiting for the lights to go out and break into my home. My family tolerates my irrational phobia of the dark and still allows me to use my pretty little nightlight; choosing to overlook any disturbance it brings to their own peaceful sleep.
I don~{!/~}t like camping for a lot of reasons, but the number one reason is my fear of the dark and the woods. Although we have flashlights and kerosene lanterns to light the woods, the likelihood of something going wrong prevents me from considering going where I know I don~{!/~}t belong. We would run out of kerosene, our matches would become wet; the brand new batteries bought just for the camping trip would not work!!!
Can you imagine trying to navigate the woods at night without a flashlight? Staying safe on a trail and avoiding snakes and other dangerous animals would be nearly impossible ... not to mention, a frightening experience; yet every day people choose to navigate life blindly, opting instead to go it alone without the light of God~{!/~}s word.
When we choose to navigate this life without the wonderful light of God~{!/~}s word, we are choosing to walk in the woods without a flashlight. His word is a lamp needed to guide our feet; it illuminates the path of life and keeps us from falling into the deep ditches of sin, agony and defeat. If like me, you are afraid of the dark, open the Bible and keep His Word shining bright in your life daily. You will find that even when your nights seem their darkest, God will guide you safely out of the woods into the light of His love.
Mediate on the word of God, it~{!/~}s a road map to guide you as you travel through life. Below are just a few examples. I suggest that you read these aloud and insert your name where applicable. Make the verses personal to you as you claim and believe God for your specific need. Watch as God~{!/~}s Power manifest itself in your life. You will be amazed with how quickly His blessings overshadow your problems.
When you need healing read:
(Psalm 103:3-5) The Lord forgives our sins, heals us when we are sick, and protect us from death. His kindness and love is a crown on our heads. Each day that we live, He provides for our needs and gives us the strength of a young eagle.
(Luke 18:27) But He said, ~{!0~}The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.~{!1~}
(Ephesians 3:20) ~{!0~}Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.~{!1~}
(Psalms 107:20) He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.
(Jeremiah 30:17) For I will restore health to you, and I will heal you of your wounds, said the LORD; because they called you an Outcast, saying, this is Zion, whom no man seeks after.
When you feel condemned read:
(Romans 8:1) Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus
(John 3:17) For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
When you are overcome with fear and anxiety read:
Isaiah 41:13 "For I the LORD thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee.
Psalm 91: 1-2, 4-6 "He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday."
When you feel depressed read:
(Isaiah 61:2-3) The Lord has sent me to comfort those who mourn, especially in Jerusalem. He sends me to give them flowers in place of tears, and joyous praise in place of broken hearts.
(Isaiah 43:2) When you cross deep rivers, I will be with you, and you won't drown.
~{~}(Isaiah 43:2) When you walk through fire, you won't be burned or scorched by the flames.
When you feel weak read:
(Psalm 28:7) The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to him in song
(Philippians 4:13) I can do everything through him who gives me strength.
(Thessalonians 3:3) But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen and protect you from the evil one.
