Come Follow Me
“Come follow me”
Mark 1:17 (NIV)
Have you ever gotten lost? That can be a very scary feeling. Imagine being out in a jungle, it is dark, no real paths, snakes hanging from trees and slithering around on the ground. You can hear the roar of lions and tigers, the sounds of elephant are trumpeting. Vultures are swarming just waiting for you to drop. What will I eat what will I drink Just as you think you time is up a native walks up to you and says, “You’re not from around these parts”, “come follow me I will bring you to safety”. He then says, “I will save you”.
Have you ever been in that jungle? How about the jungle of sin? How about being alone, in the dark, sin all around, roaring, trumpeting, and hanging from the trees? Satan, like the vultures is just waiting for you to drop. There is no hope, sin has you in its clutches, and people have told you you’re a lost cause. You feel judged even by the people in the churches you tried to sneak in and out of. Now what?
Jesus has walked up to you and said you look lost; you are not from around these parts. What Jesus really said was; “Come follow me”. Jesus tells us His Father, Our Father is the only true judge. Jesus said with me you are safe, follow me. I will bring you to safety. With Jesus the dangers are out there but you are safe. The vultures fly the other way. Jesus says follow me watch my steps, watch my actions, listen to my words, imitate them and follow them. He asks do you want to be saved. Then come follow me.
