The Gift of Friendship

Friendship is a priceless gift

That cannot be bought or sold,

But its value is far greater than

A mountain made of gold.

For gold is cold and lifeless

It can neither see nor hear,

And in the time of trouble it

is powerless to cheer.

It has no ears to listen

Nor heart to understand,

It cannot bring you comfort

Or reach out a helping hand.

So when you ask God for a gift

Be thankful if He sends,

Not diamond, pearls or riches--

But the love of real true friends.

It hung on the wall in the kitchen in my mother’s marital home. We moved away to a temporary accommodation, due to domestic violence, and it was hung in the living room. Then we moved to a more permanent address where my mum resides to this day and it has changed positions over the years.
I remember glancing at it as I walked through the hall way.  I had it in my bedroom at one stage. However, on the 23rd October 2010, I saw it hanging on my mother’s wardrobe door.  I sat on my mother’s bed and wrote the words down word for word. They were no longer words on a canvas accompanied by beautiful pictures, I had finally understood the meaning of the words that were woven together. I was in need of those encouraging words and still appreciate the message within.  I am glad I did take the time to write the words down in my diary for now I can begin to understand why friends were so much more important to my mother as she went through her ordeal. I can also share it with you just in case you need to be encouraged today. Be blessed!

Your friend and Sister in Christ

Friendship is a gift from God. I believe that friends are God's way of taking care of us. We can't choose our family but we can choose our friends. We don't always make wise choices but when God is in it all things are beautiful. If you have extended yourself as a friend to others you have beautified those lives and I would like to thank you for allowing God to use you as a friend. Isn't it beautiful that Jesus calls us friend. How beautiful it is when we extend that friendship. See St. John 15:12-16

Thanks, Janice! The best things of life are free. You can't buy them. A true friend is one such priceless gift that God gives us. Thanks for bring a friend, your encouraging words have sometimes been a bridge that I use to cross over to the other side.

The Lord continues to extend His Mercy to Dee&me by Gracefully Blessing us with The Reality of His Friendship; that we can experience daily with Him: in our quiet time, as we prayerfully we read in His Holy Word, in our fellowship with each other, as husband and wife In Christ Jesus, in Dee's&my fellowship with other members of The Body of Christ and in the moment by moment Fellowship with The Holy Spirit in our daily walk In Christ Jesus. The Lord brought these thoughts to mind, as I read your article. Thank you. John 15:15 Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you. 7

The Lord has spent countless days of my life teaching me about the definition of a true friend. He has blessed me with many and (I pray) led me to be one to many. "Friendship" - the absolute greatest treasure in this life beginning with our Savior's friendship with us right on down to every last individual I have the honor to call friend. Thanks for the post, Jan. I'm sure the wisdom of the words were of great value to your mum or she wouldn't keep it up front and personal all these years. Blessings! Jody
