"Loving God means keeping His commandments, and His commandments are not burdensome." I John 5:3-----
Because His commands are what shape and mold our hearts according to His plans and purposes which are of peace and goodness and prosperity and eternal life, they are not burdensome.
"For every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith. And who can win this battle against the world? Only this that believe the Jesus is the Son of God." 1 John 5:4-5--------
What is your foundation, your solid rock? Are you focused on Christ or the temptations (magazines, music, movies, entertainment, wrong crowds, outward appearances, etc) of this world, that sinking sand? If the first, then you will win your battles against what lures you away from your freedom in Christ (1 John 5:3). If the latter, pray. Pray, pray, pray, PRAY! Surrender. He whispers it ever so gently,"Surrender, surrender."
"And we are confident that He hears us whenever we ask for anything that pleases Him." 1 John 5:14----------
When you have the heart of Jesus in you, you begin to desire what is pure and holy and honoring to the Lord, which all falls in line with His will for you. His will for you: that you remain close to Him, that you are free in Him, that your life is full of hope, a future, His mercies, His grace, His love, that you are purposeful, fulfilled, satisfied, serve Him, that you dwell in His house forever .... and because these are what please Him, He WILL give them to you if you just surrender and ask Him! Let go of your flesh, surrender. He's lovingly waiting.
"And we know that the Son of God has come, and He has given us understanding so that we can know the true God. And now we live in fellowship with the true God because we live in fellowship with His Son, Jesus Christ. He is the only true God, and He is eternal life." 1 John 5:20-------
Don't ever loose sight of eternal life, it's that time when you will spend 'forever' with your Creator and Lover and Father. He's made a way for that fellowship both now and later, don't push it aside when you've had it given to you so gracefully and lovingly. God created life, and only He can tell you how to properly live it and enjoyingly live it when you are abiding in Him and His Word and when you are in fellowship with the brethren at your church. I know you know that communion with God is the best, don't forget!
"Dear children, keep away from anything that might take God's place in your hearts." 1 John 5:21--------
Praise God that John the apostle ended his first letter with this verse. This key, vital, important, sharp verse. It's what needs to be engraved on each one of our minds and hearts. It's also an eye opener and invitation to examine our own hearts and ask," Where exactly is God in my life and heart?" Destruction, evil, slavery, bondage, darkness, blindness, being lost, and many other terrible things come when God is set aside in ones life. When He has so much for you, His child, in store, why would you turn away from it?
