Bells are ringing,
People are singing.
It's that time of the year
When family gathers near.
Yes, it's Christmas day,
But what is Christmas anyway?
Christmas is rushing around like mad,
Trying to buy gifts for Mom and Dad,
Aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends--
For trinkets and little odds and ends.
Christmas is twenty-four shopping days
Through malls and stores-- an endless maze.
Christmas is looking at what you've bought,
Realizing you've spent more than you've got.
Commercialization, money, pay--
That's what Christmas is nowadays
For those whose minds
To the truth--
Of Christmas is not something bought from the store,
But it's love, joy, happiness, and so much more.
