I want to talk about something a little different today. Thereís been a lot of press about Toronto Mayor Rob Ford and the alleged video showing him smoking weed. Now, I donít live in Toronto, but I am a Canadian and Daybreaker does start off in Toronto so this is an issue that I want to address.
First of all, Iíve been blacked out pictures of Mr. Ford out with friends, but in all the searching that Iíve done not once could I find this so called video proving that Mayor Ford was smoking weed. Not only that, but news stations have been unable to verify the truth of this rumor themselves. So, this has me thinking, what if this is nothing more then just a rumor and thereís no prof that itís real or not. And my bigger question has become, what if weíre judging an innocent man and what if weíre slandering his name for no reason other then for his going out and having a few drinks with friends?
I thought that we lived in a society where we were innocent till proven guilty. But, from all the news coverage that Iíve been seeing, itís like everyone wants to say that heís guilty without actually seeing the proof of it. I for one donít agree with it. I say, let the poor man be till there is concrete proof that he is actually guilty of the accusations put on him.
I am a Christian. I believe in God. And I know that there are going to be those who have been accusing Mr. Ford of getting high by smoking weed, that say that are Christians and believe in God. But, what I donít agree with is the fact that they are not behaving in a Christian manner. This is not the kind of behavior a Christian would display.
I donít know if we will ever fully know the truth of what was in that video. But, what I do know is that we need to get off this topic and let Mr. Ford do his job. He is still the mayor of Toronto and he does have a job to do. A job thatís been made harder by the resignation of some of his staff.
Mayor Rob Ford, I know that the chances of you ever seeing this are rare, but I want it to be made public that you have the support of this Albertan author and I believe in your innocence until it is other wise proven that you have in fact done something wrong.
