There’s a secret in prayer and commitment to God that will release His Divine power in our lives that will fill us with His Grace to move us to do His Will. If we take the steps that were laid out before us by the believers in the Old Testament in Psalm 119 in various verses we can tap into this secret and it will become a spiritual reality in our lives.
Hi Faith-writers I’m grateful to be back with another message about the topic “The Word of God”, we are determined to dig deeper in Scripture to reveal the hidden TRUTHS we can come to understand and practically apply to experience the same blessings that all the believers in Scripture encountered.
The Phrase “According to Your Word”
The first time in Psalm 119 we read about this phrase “According to Your Word” is in verse 25, where the psalmist says, My soul clings to the dust; Revive me according to Your Word (Psalm119:25 NKJV). This statement that’s found throughout the entire Old & New Testament has a Powerful meaning for the Believer who said it to God and the Perfect answer Our Heavenly Father loves to hear.
Whether it was David quoting back to God what God had inspired the Prophet Nathan to tell David about building the Holy Temple through the hands of Solomon and David’s throne being established forever…(See Samuel chapter 7:1-24 NKJV). Or Mary who received what Gabriel told her and said, Let it be to me According to Your Word. God was greatly pleased by the acknowledgement and humble submission to the Vision and Mission He had planned for their lives.
According to God’s Word
The ongoing mission of God having promised His Word to David and Mary was about Jesus coming to reign on His throne forever they were both instrumental in allowing God to fulfill His Will through their lives. God revealed it to them they accepted and practically lived that promise out in their lives to allow Jesus access into this world to rule in our hearts and later to rule on earth for the next 1000 years when He returns. This is deep but very simple because we have Scripture that clearly teaches this End-Time topic. However, remaining on the topic “According to Your Word”, we see that every servant that ever made that statement actually experienced God’s Word in their lives.
Short and Sweet
Another Truth hidden in this statement is the simplicity of the phrase “According to Your Word”. In other words, the Psalmist didn’t quote David or any other servant that God used in the Old Testament in regards to his request to God. What do you mean Manuel? Most prayers in the Old Testament usually made reference to some Old Testament saint and what they experienced so that they may receive a blessing from God in the same manner; “A Reference testimony or Blessing”, to God to get a blessing from God. The Psalmist could have probably quoted a lot of Scripture to God to be relieved from Emotional Stress and turmoil but he kept it simple by saying, My soul clings to the dust; Revive me according to Your Word (Psalm 119:25 NKJV). We need to keep our prayers short at times (Read Ecclesiastes 5:2 NKJV).
Even if we don’t know Scripture well or we may have forgotten it the phrase “According to Your Word”, may just be suitable to your particular dilemma, problem, affliction or situation when we pray to God for deliverance.
To Revive-- is to bring again to life; to reanimate. 2. To raise from languor, depression or discouragement; to rouse; as, to revive the spirits or courage. 3. To renew; to bring into action after a suspension; as, to revive a project or scheme that had been laid aside. 4. To renew in the mind or memory; to recall. (According to Noah Webster) Modern words could be—stimulate, reactivate, turn on the power, remobilize, and make it functional again.
There is Scripture for each one of these definitions. But instead of quoting all the Scriptures that parallel to these definitions I would like to go on in Psalm 119 in several verses to point out how the Psalmist prayed other prayers with the Phrase “Revive Me”, which I believe is more important and practical for us to learn.
To keep us spiritually focus
Turn away my eyes from looking at worthless things, and Revive Me in Your Word (Psalm 119:37 NKJV). The world has many attracting offers and pleasures at our disposal. Yet, to be more godly focused and pleasing to Our Heavenly Father we have to set our affections above where Christ is Seated (Colossians 3:1-2 NKJV). By praying this simple prayer we can be helped by the Holy Spirit to once again be spiritually refocused on serving God.
Want to live in God’s Righteousness? Pray for it!
Behold, I long for Your precepts; Revive Me in Your Righteousness (Psalm 119:40 NKJV) There is two types of Righteousness taught in Scripture Religious Righteousness that the Scribes and Pharisees lived by and the Righteousness Jesus told us to live by (See Matthew 5:17-20 NKJV). The point is we are to pray for His Divine Righteousness to be imparted into our hearts on a daily basis to experience walking in the riches of that blessing.
When we failed to keep God’s Word—we should pray!
Revive Me according to Your loving Kindness, so that I may keep the testimony of Your Mouth (psalm 119:88 NKJV).
When we are sick or afflicted with any disease or sickness—we should pray!
I am afflicted very much; Revive Me, O Lord, according to Your Word (Psalm 119:107 NKJV) Where in the Word does it say that we are Healed (Isaiah 53:4,5 / 1 Corinthians 15:3,4 / 1 Peter 2:24 25 NKJV) Paul stated that Jesus died for our sins according to the Scriptures in 1 Corinthians 15:3,4. Peter stated that Jesus died for our sins and by His stripes we are healed 1 Peter 2:24 and 25. The Psalmist prayed for Healing based on Old Testament Scripture that God heals which there are many examples. We can pray this prayer based on the finish work that Jesus did on the cross. What is the difference?
If Old Testament believers can be spiritually knowledgeable about God being a healer and being brave enough to ask God for healing why shouldn’t we? Besides it has nothing to do with our being extremely sinful or punished by such an affliction (that is, we may be under the impression God is punishing us with the affliction) whatever the reason we have been afflicted. We can pray for healing on the basis of what God did through Jesus Christ when He offered Jesus up on the cross for us to be HEALED (NOT ONLY SAVED) but HEALED, HEALED, HEALED!!! Jesus didn’t get 40 stripes for nothing it was a Divine plan of God to provide HEALING for those who believe.
Some Theologians may argue that it was spiritual healing, or that it was emotion healing. Don’t fall for misinterpretations. Peter meant physical Healing in 1 Peter 2:24 and 25. Peter always preached about Salvation and Healing (See Acts 10:38 NKJV) there are many more examples in the Book of Acts that support this TRUTH of HEALING. Matthew quoted the same Isaiah 53:4 and 5 verses of Scripture when Jesus was on the scene HEALING all manner sicknesses and diseases (See, Matthew 8:14-17 NKJV). Therefore, based on what Matthew, Paul and Peter had said we are HEALED by JESUS’ Stripes He had received. HE was tortured for us so why should we be tortured with an affliction? Let’s ask God to Revive us from the affliction according to His Word, amen.
Here are some other prayers for Revival
Plead my cause and redeem me; Revive me according to Your Word (Psalm 119:154 NKJV).
Great are Your tender mercies, O Lord; Revive me according to Your judgments (Psalm 119:156 NKJV).
Consider how I love Your precepts; Revive me, O Lord, according to Your loving kindness (Psalm 119:159 NKJV).
According to His Word, according to His Judgments, and according to His loving kindness will we receive the answers to our prayers. He informed us of it, He revealed to the Psalmist to it was possible, and now it our turn to apply and experience the same answers to our prayers that we have learned to pray. So let us start praying according to His Word amen.
