"6 But the thing was displeasing in the sight of Samuel when they said, “ Give us a king to judge us. “And Samuel prayed to the LORD. 7 And the LORD said to Samuel, “Listen to the voice of the people in regard to all that they say to you, for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected Me from being king over them. 8 “Like all the deeds which they have done since the day that I brought them up from Egypt even to this day -- in that they have forsaken Me and served other gods -- so they are doing to you also. 9 “Now then, listen to their voice; however, you shall solemnly warn them and tell them of the procedure of the king who will reign over them.” ( 1 Samuel 8:6-9)
Can we draw a parallel from this portion of history to our 21st century mind-set ? Have" we the people" forgotten the prosperity that we American's have enjoyed, through the goodness of God ? Has God taken His hand off the United States, because of our ungodly complacent forgetfulness ? Should we not learn a lesson from this passage of scripture ?
Often times God may give our nation the desires of our unregenerate hearts, even though proven later to be painful to us.( Psalm 106:15) I feel this may be happening to us now.
Sometimes our prayers are self-centered, not based at all on our virtuous devout faith. And if we persist, not realizing or being able to foretell the consequence, God may grant our request as punishment. You see, God may use this challenging hard lesson as discipline, so that we may understand to trust in Him. ( Matthew 6:33) I also feel this may be happening to us now.
Letting us, as a nation, go our own selfish way, may just be according to God's "sovereign Will". ( Jeremiah 32:17) Regardless of how bad our country's situation may be, God is still in control. ( Psalm 103:19) There is absolutely nothing that happens in the world that is outside of God's influence and authority. ( Romans 11:33)
Yes, God will allow just leaders, as well as unjust leaders, to rule in order to effect His perfection ( Colossians 1:16), in order to show His glory in the end.
It is because our Lord is " sovereign" and loves us, that noting will ever come to past in our lives that God does not allow. And this same attribute of God holds true with us as a nation. ( Proverbs 16:1-4)
So where did we, as a nation, go wrong ? By disobeying the eternal commandments of God. ( Exodus 20:1-24) And no nation has ever survived, in which the nation turned its back on the living God. ( Genesis 12:3)
Just look around you at the chaotic weather patterns, the civil unrest, the increasing crime element, the troubled economy, no confidence in government, and on and on. Is this not evidence enough of God's displeasure ? Is this not evidence that God may be taking His hand off America ?
Can we again gain God's good pleasure ? Yes we can. In ( 2 Chronicles 7:14) God gives us a stipulation and a promise. The condition is ours to keep and the promise is God's to keep. We must, as individuals and as a nation, comply.
God is patiently waiting, as He is knocking on our nations door. ( Revelation 3:20 ) It's up to us to let Him come in. We must, as a nation, take a stand for the right.( Revelation 3:16)
