Architects are amazing! They disappear into their imagination and after a while return with a pencil in their hand and a smile on their face.
"I've seen it," they will say, and begin to draw what they have seen.
Artist are very similar and forever capture an image with their brush.
Then there are the engineers and the builders.
When I see a tree planted by a riverside, I see all of the above. Besides the beauty we enjoy from its natural properties, the great Architect, and Builder of the universe painted for us an illustration of life He desired for us to live.
The tree flourishes alongside the river. Why is that? A tree through its roots, draws from the river all it needs to flourish, grow and bear fruit. It is the river that provides a rich illustration of how our God provides for us to live a life of fullness and prosperity. The river is the agent of provision.
A river flows through you property. You have no control of how much flows into it, for it depends on the seasons and weather. As it flows through your property, you are able to take as much water as you need. Use it for yourself, your cattle, your fields and your garden. Use it to satisfy the thirst of those who stop by. There is enough for all it when the river flows.
When you have taken all you can to satisfy the thirst of fields and flowers, your animals and yourself, the rest flows on. Just as the river flowed into your property, now after all is satisfied it flows out and once again you have no control of how much flows out. As it flows out, it flows into the next property to bless it as well and so on.
God Himself promised us He would provide. It is the way of the kingdom of which Jesus spoke so much while He walked on this earth. (Matthew 6)
The way of the kingdom is such that every bird is cared for and the flowers of the field flourish (Matt 6:26,27) and every hair on our head is counted(Matthew 10:6). These are simple assurances of a King who takes his kingdom seriously and promises its citizens and its domain everything needed to live prosperously.
The river of this kingdom never stops flowing, even though this world wherein we live fails us. The ravens brought meat to Elijah and Moses found water from a rock and bread from the sky for his people. The oil will not stop flowing till all is satisfied and the multitudes are fed with five loaves and two fishes. That is the way of the kingdom.
Embrace this truth of the kingdom by faith and you will be as a river planted by the riverside, (Psalm 1:3) whose leaves will not wither and who yields fruit in due season.
