The field is dark and both armies are at a standstill. Both commanders march out into the middle of the field to finish the battle once and for all. The Enemy stands tall armored in red flame and shadow, his darkness choking out the light around him. He is quick and cunning, full of trickery and deceit; none have been able to face him alone. Our leader goes out to match him. He is graceful and power emanates from Him and His armor is white hot flame that burns through the darkness to spread light to those in need. They meet in a shower of sparks, neither giving way, always blocking and attacking. Day and night they fought, the ground shook under their blows and the sun was darkened from the dust from their feet. By the third morning both were grievously wounded but they still fought. Finally the sun came up and our leader stepped back. “It is finished” was all he said, and then He struck down the Enemy with one last mighty blow.
In awe we watched him walk calmly back to our lines, blood flowing from His hands, feet, and side. Then He looked at me. His eyes had a sad look of pain, but His mouth still held a small smile. This made me very uncomfortable so I began to inspect my own armor only to find that instead of the shining white of His armor there was just dull grey. I tried to struggle out of it before He found me in my stained raiment, but already He was heading in my direction. To my dismay the more I struggled the tighter it held me, for I had welded the clasps closed so that nothing could uncover my soft tissue underneath. The iron had become a second skin; I could not be free of it. Then the White Knight was upon me.
“Why do you struggle my son?” I couldn’t answer, in my shame I pull the armor tighter. “Let us help you.” Again I pull it tighter; nothing will be able to hurt me through this protection.
Soon part of the army had gathered; my comrades in arms were looking at me in sadness, knowing that I was pulling away from them in my desperate attempt to save myself from pain. Now our commander was standing right above me and He whispered: “Now is the time to be free. Yes there will be pain, but it is nothing to fear. I will give you strength and your fellow warriors will support you. Now it is time to break that old armor off so that you can truly be one of my troops. Are you ready for that?” All I could say was “Yes Lord!”
Then came the pain. They were all around me pounding on me breaking off the armor that was my second skin. Soon it was over and I stood naked before my master. One by one He took the pieces of my armor and smeared His blood over it and put it back on me. When He was done I stood glowing in the white armor of our army. Now I am ready to fight; I am filled with unimaginable power. I am a Warrior and my master is the God of the universe. Nothing in this earth has power over me any longer.
