"Blessed are the meek for they will inherit the earth." Matthew 5:5
Meekness is the quality that doesn't demand our own agenda or timetable. David displays this quality in 1 Samuel 26:7-12. We read that David had the perfect opportunity to kill Saul and become the King. David had already been anointed by Samuel and knew that God wanted him to be king. Yet David said, "The Lord himself will strike him (Saul); either his time will come and he will die, or he will go into battle and perish. But the Lord forbid that I should lay a hand on the Lord's anointed."
But David knew that this wasn't God's way at this time. He had learnt to do things according to God's agenda and timetable rather than demand his own way.
Sometimes we think we know how God should respond to a particular situation and we can fall into a trap of demanding that God comes through for us on our terms and in our timing. Perhaps we have read testimonies of other people's experiences of God and expect that God should do the same thing in our life. Yet God knows us individually and will not conform to our expectations but He operates on what is best for us. God has a particular purpose for each of our lives and we need to learn to be meek, accepting His agenda and His timetable.
