FaithWriters Great Multitude Christian Daily Devotional
Matthew 16:25 (NLT)—If you try to keep your life for yourself, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for Me, you will find true life.
Is your life more important than following Jesus? Where do you think you will end up if you follow your own ambitions? Is it possible to give up your life and still live? These are just a few questions you should ponder and answer honestly. Jesus knows how hard it is to give His life for another. He did it for you and me. He isn’t asking you to physically die; Jesus is asking you to follow Him and give of yourself. Live as He did. He helped others. He cared about everyone. Jesus was God’s Son.
All He is asking of you is to not follow your own will, but to pick up your cross daily—having the willingness to follow and serve Him. Be like Jesus: compassionate; peaceful; bring joy to others; encourage the brokenhearted; love everyone-even your enemies; forgive your debtors; be kind and gentle; humble and meek; and so on. When you choose your own path of selfish ambitions without Christ, you are denying Him. When you give of yourself to Jesus, you are denying yourself and are ready to follow Him. When He says “true life”—He means you will have eternal life. You discover the real purpose of living when you give your life in service to Christ.
