"Oh that My people would listen to Me, That Israel would walk in My ways! ( Psalm 81:13)
One need only tune the TV or radio dial or pick up the local newspaper, to quickly see America is in " a heap of trouble". And sadly to say, any number of churches, as well as the news media, fail to recognize or suggest a solution to "America's" problems. These problems include our degraded moral standards, our political and civil unrest, our recessed economy, nature running amok, and so on. Of course, the greatest crisis of all is our nation turning its back on God.
How may we Christians go about helping to change this predicament ? To start with, the scripture tells us its bigger than our human capabilities, individually or corporately. ( 2 Cor 4:4) However, God is still on the throne, if we would only come to him. To be safe from our enemy ( Ephesians 6:12) we must walk in the Lord's ways and trust him to subdue the enemy. In other words we must listen to our Lord. ( Psalm 81:13-14)
In ( 2 Chronicles 7:14) we have a discourse given to God's covenant people " Israel. However, in ( Galatians 3:29) the Apostle Paul points out that this particular exhortation was also given to the church of all ages.
So in ( 2 Chronicles 7:14) we have a cause and effect. Simply put , the church is the key to our country being blessed. And guess what ? This means if we are part of the blood born church of Jesus Christ, we have a responsibility to be a part of our country being blessed. It's all about us. For we are His people.
The cause is a big" if". If we, as His people will:
Humble ourselves---. ( 2 Chronicles 12:12) It's hard to be humble, surviving in today's unpredictable evil world. However, modesty and respect, is a must, in the preservation of our Christian testimony. ( Proverbs 11:2)
And pray --- ( 1 John 5:14-15) Prayer is the key. By prayer we talk to God. It may start with us individually ( Matthew 6:5-12) , spread to our peer groups ( Psalm 107:28-30) , then spread to our churches. ( Mark 9:29)
And seek the face of God--- ( Deuteronomy 4:29 ) Why did the Holy Spirit inspire this particular phrase ? Now, more than ever, we feel separated from God. We feel frightened and angry, just longing to feel the presence of God in our country, and in our lives. This is where our dedicated prayers come into play.
And turn from our wicked ways --- ( Acts 3:19) You see sin affects us all, saved and unsaved. It's how we may handle sin that separates us. Generally speaking, our nation has not handled sin very well. Or have we chosen not to recognize sin, as sin ?
Iif we humble ourselves, pray, and seek the face of God, then and only then, God's promised that He will:
Forgive our sins ---. ( 1 John 1:9) Unconfused sin will come between us and God, as He hates sin of any type, be it a personal sin or a collective national sin. However, we serve a loving and just God. That's why He has promised to forgive us, as a nation, if we will but turn from our wicked ways. ( Isaiah 59:102)
Heal our land ---. ( 2 Cor 10:4-5) The Lord will honor His word, if we heed it. He will certainly heal our land.
Yes, God has given us a special assignment. And if this assignment is carried out, God is obligated to respond. However, unless we become a Christian nation, we will continue to decline into immorality. And with this mind-set comes God's wrath. The scripture plainly tells us that God's wrath is due ( Judges 21:25) when our society rejects God's plan by suppressing our human conscience ( Romans 1:18). When this occurs, God will give us over to our own sin. (Romans 1:24)
How do we get the victory over Satan's evil deeds ? Although, turning our nation back to God is our objective, this objective will not be obtained until mankind's heart is changed. Until God rules and reigns within the individual heart. That's where the dictates of ( 2 Chronicles 7:14) comes into play, through the "Great Commission". ( Matthew 28:19) Simply put, mankind must be changed from the inside out. So let's go to work.
