Looking back upon that day
Confused, turmoil raged within
The truth seemed just a foggy gray
Obscured by fleshly sin
Hard words on human ears, so filling
Eternal life, living flesh to eat?
Oh the wit is dull, but I am willing
Teach me Rabbi, I'm at your feet
The sun beat down upon my head
Sweat and tears mingling flow
If you're the one as John has said
Allay fears: If you're Him I must know!
My belly's full, you gave us bread
And fish to make us strong
Your power shown—my faith has grown
Shall I follow Him along?
Teacher... the heat, my mind a hellish blaze
Cool my head and warm this heart
Clear this mental haze
Jesus' flesh to eat, your blood to drink
And life is guaranteed?
Nothing could I do but blink
Yet, you put within, a seed
Now watered by your blood dripping
Tears, sadness, realization gripping
Teeters faith, now tipping
As on your bloody face I see
All the love you have for me
As you hung there on that tree
Victory shouted, forgiveness touted
Now all in thee are free
For you arose, my own love flows
At last I clearly see
That day still lingers when the Savior's fingers
Reached into this heart of mine
To till my will, that seed to spill
Now the planting of His love Shines
Give eyes of faith that we may see
Oh Father thy love so poignantly
Displayed in your Son, the one who won
The victory for you and me
