LEN'S LINES -- A Little Religion On A Positive Note By Len Granger
My Jewish Friend
Several years ago, when I started using the computer, a thought came to me that I should research my family history, as my father had said we were a mix of many different nationalities. With the help of distant cousins, the family was traced back to the year 1640 when we arrived with the Puritans from England. We as a family had good times and bad years until my grandfather married into a Christian Jewish family and the family has prospered and been close to the Lord ever since.
Two years ago on my rounds visiting the senior citizen medical rest home with my two small dogs, I made friends with a man that had been in the center for over a year. He had been a Navy pilot and I loved to hear his stories of World War 11 as he flew as a fighter pilot. He injured his leg and was never able to walk in recent years but we had something in common, as he was Jewish. His grandfather was a Rabbi and he attended church all his life and knew the Old Testament very well.
One day when we were discussing the Bible, he said the Bible says if something lasts for years there has to be something to it. He was going to talk to his Rabbi when he came to visit about what it says in the Book of Isaiah, about the coming of the Messiah.
Isaiah 9:6-7 "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder; and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The Mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this."
When I visited my friend the following week, he said that his Rabbi said to read the Book Of John in the New Testament. I got him a large print Bible to read and was so blessed when he told me, Yes he believed in the Christian Lord.
We had many discussions and friendly chats in the following weekly visits as he took a liking to my Cavalier King Charles Spaniels that would sit on his lap in his bed. He said his leg pain was becoming less as he read the Bible and prayed to the Lord, but knew as an 80 year old man his time on earth was not too long.
Then on one visit I noticed his room was empty, so asked the nurse about his condition. He had passed on and she added, he read the Bible and was praying out loud so everyone could hear, to the Lord in Heaven, please take me home and then he would pray to God in his Jewish manner. My Jewish friend wanted to be covered by both God and His Son Jesus Christ whom he now believed was the Messiah he had been looking for all those years. I praised the Lord that I as a servant of the Lord was able to plant the seed and my friend in his time of need looked to the Lord for his Salvation.
Trust we will all be in the church of our choice this Sunday, worshiping and sing praises to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
