You are Mine
The other night, I watched as my daughter held up her 6-week old baby, cuddling him to her face and kissing his cheek. I heard her say to him, "You are mine!" I couldn't help but smile. She loved him so much.
Several years ago, she had suffered a miscarriage and the loss of that baby had truly devastated her. When she became pregnant again this past year, I prayed with all my heart that God would let her bring this child into the world. God answered those prayers, and today my daughter is a loving mother. She adores her little son. Anyone who sees her with him can see that he is the most precious thing in the world to her.
Although my daughter is grown now, I still feel the same way about her. I love her dearly. Why? Simply because she is mine. I recall during her teenage years, we had many ups and downs. Many times, she let me down, angered me and frustrated me to no end, but did my love for her ever wane? Absolutely not. No matter how much she angered me or how much she broke my heart, my love for her never lessened. And, even during those hard times, there was still nothing I wouldn't have done for her. Why? Because she was mine.
God feels the same way about us. How do I know this? Listen to what God says in Isaiah 43:1-4
"But now, thus says the Lord, who created you, O Jacob, and formed you, O Israel: Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; You are mine.
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you.
For I am the Lord your God, The Holy One of Israel, your Savior; I gave Egypt for your ransom, Ethiopia and Seba in your place.
Since you were precious in My sight, you have been honored, and I have loved you."
