GOD’S WORLD VIEW

It may hurt our American egos a little to realize what a small portion of God’s universe we are. To judge by our sometimes banty-rooster stand, we are not only small, we are pretty much on a par with the rest of the folks on the planet, fairly insignificant. Ouch! Even our very own Declaration of Independence opens with the statement, “All men are created equal (!). That’s not the way we look or feel, now is it? To be more trustworthy and emphatic, the Holy Book affirms, “God so loved the WORLD, that He sent His only begotten Son to save the WORLD and not condemn it. Over centuries of being blessed, we seem to have come to a positive conclusion that we are indeed a special people, a dangerous and improvident stance, one with no foundation in Holy Writ.

A great part of this sad and unholy conclusion is that over the centuries we have come to regard material possessions as the criterion of importance, to equate fame with virtue, brilliance of intellect with superiority over God’s Word. Dangerous ground, indeed, and it is causing us to lose the Way. We are stumbling over our great pride in self and missing the lowliness and gentleness of Jesus, the qualities that help us walk in His footsteps. .“Let the little children come to me for of such is the Kingdom of heaven.” To the woman taken in the very act of adultery lying quivering before the mob: “Has no man condemned thee? Then go and sin no more.” Forgiveness:” Father, forgive them, they know not what they do’, a suffering Savior as He hung between heaven and earth. “Come unto me, all you are weak and heavy-laden and I will give you rest for your souls. Take my yoke upon you and learn of Me, for I am meek and lowly in heart, and you shall find rest for your souls, for my yoke is easy and my burden light.

Doesn’t sound high and mighty, does it? Sounds more like refuge!
