In life we often times make choices where we wonder if it was the right thing to do or not. Some choices are not as life changing as others and if we realize that it was the wrong one the consequences are not crucial. However, some choices that we make are far reaching in their affect on us and should be made with extreme caution.
In fact they shouldn't be made until we are sure we have heard the whisper of God directing us towards His will in the situation.
Moving 1000 miles across the country is one of those choices.
After a vision retreat with my husband we felt the Lord whispered to move to Georgia from Texas to help our children follow their dreams and connect to their destiny. Our oldest daughter's dream to begin a children's home was the catalyst for our move. Flowery Branch, Georgia has the children's home we'd like to model with the training program to help. While my youngest daughter can connect to her destiny of becoming a nurse almost anywhere an excellent and strong children's home was not as easy to find. A small town in Georgia probably would have been our last pick.
We shared the idea with our children who were blessed at our love for them, shocked that we'd leave Austin after 24 years and excited about the new season to come. We shared the plan with our Pastors who gave the blessing for us to leave our ministry positions of over 20 years giving us our 2nd confirmation. We shared with our closest friends who were excited for us and agreed this was God although they would miss us (well except for our friends on the east coast who were excited we'd be closer). Our friends agreement gave us confirmation as well.
With all of that confirmation it has still been difficult to shake the thoughts that scream maybe this wasn't the right decision for our family. Packing up after 24 years, leaving our secure ministry positions without jobs waiting for us, leasing a house in Gainesville (which was a God confirmation in itself) while still owning a house that's not rented yet in Austin, leaving most of our family and friends for a town where we know absolutely no one at times seems completely absurd.
But in the midst of those haunting thoughts (that I'm working diligently to take captive of) God never fails and shows His love by confirming our choice in so many ways large and small. It's possible that what I'm about to list as confirming signs may not seem like they are to you, but my desire is to help you step back into your situations and allow God to show you His confirming love for you from the simple things to the obvious miraculous ones.
The way God gave us our house and where it is located was a major faith builder for us. It's located 5 minutes away from our daughters community college and the church we believe we are to attend. The church being only 15 minutes from Flowery Branch was yet another sign of God's love in that over the years we've followed Pastor Franklin but never really paid attention to where he ministry was located. God answered a desire of our heart with that beautiful set up.
A friend in Austin connected us with a friend of his in Gainesville at Free Chapel giving us our first friend in the area (she texted and emailed to check up on us until we arrived). The ease of our move from the professional mover who is a family friend who saved us more than half of the cost that movers would have charged, to the incredible amount of friends who tirelessly helped us pack, load, drive 16 hours and unload. The fast theme at Free Chapel "Because there is more" helped remind us that although we've been blessed in our previous spot for 23 years there is more for us in our new season where God wants us to be.
The cable man was a Christian Worship Leader who encouraged us about our church decision and welcomed us the 2nd day we were here, our neighbors left a note for us on the door wishing us a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and we attended church on January 2nd for the first time in 2013 and received a confirming word from the guest speaker that night. A trip to the nail shop where the overwhelming friendliness of the workers and another customer telling me job openings, where things in Gainesville are and the pure southern hospitality that everyone from our neighbors, to the store clerks, the church staff and members flow in has been additional signs of God's love.
Tonight at the unplanned Prayer and Worship Service that was called to start the 2013 fast I received yet another confirmation. The anointing was strong and the word he shared was powerful. I stood and wept in awe of just how good God is. Old familiar songs sung by the over 1000 people that were there produced a presence that I hadn't sensed in a long time. I felt right at home.
From the small to the large God has been gracing us with His confirming love by signs to remind us HE CARES for us and that we are where He wants us to be.
Lastly at our family devotions tonight my husband asked the family to pray what God was ministering to their heart regarding our move and the upcoming future and what they are believing for. I sat in amazement at the faith of my children and just how in tune with the Spirit of God they are and how incredibly wonderful it is to have children and a husband who love God and serve Him with their whole heart and I realized that no matter where I am a family that loves and serves Him is the greatest confirming sign of His love that I could ask for.
Happy New Years! I pray you receive many confirmations of God's love as you enter into this new year.
