Making the Most of Your Time

How do we spend most of our TIMEóin doubt, worry or in fear? Do we just go about our day doing our regular routine day in and day out? Do we just hide in the garage and work on the vehicle or build something to get away from the immediate family? Do we run to our man cave and do caveman activities? Have we ever considered how much TIME we spend watching TV, playing video games, surfacing the web, texting or tweeting? If we were to be conscious enough to TIME ourselves doing certain activities we will be surprised to learn how much Time went into a baseball game, a football game, a basketball game and any other sport that we may be interested in watching.

Iím not criticizing people who spend TIME at the ball park or the game if they are attending such an event. What Iím pointing to is the ongoing Marathon that we normally have watching not 1 but 3 games or moreóthatís equivalent to 9-12 hours in a day. If itís only on a Saturday or Sunday itís understandable. If itís excessive we need to reconsider the TIME we are spending in front of the tube.

Iím not speaking about the sports fans alone, Iím talking to everyoneósoap opera fans, talk show fans, DVD series fans, HBO and Showtime fans that are hung up on a particular series and seem to be obsess with that sit-come or Drama. Iím also talking to shop-a-holics, mall hoppers and window shoppers. There are many activities that may not be suitable to our productivity when it comes to placing valuable TIME to learn about God. Excessive shopping, TV, video-games, texting, tweeting the latest gossip (Which is, un-Christian like activity) are all activities that will slow-down our spiritual growth process.

The Apostle Paul said, therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, making the most of your TIME, because the days are evil. So then do not be foolish, but understand what the WILL of the LORD is (Ephesians 5:15-17 NAS).

There are several points we must take a closer look at to find the balance that we need to live a productive Christian lifestyle on earth.

1. We must carefully consider how we live out our walk of faith.
2. We must be wise about it.
3. We must make the most out of every situation surrounding the TIME we have on our hands to do something productive.
4. We must realize that the days we are living in are evil and tempting to keep us away from Godís Divine purpose for our individual lives.
5. Finally, we must make a conscious effort to understand what the Will of the Lord is.

We can look at this list and come to the conclusion that any activity that does not train us to be aware of the Will of the Lordóis just idle TIME spent. Letís face the reality that many activities we are currently involved in may not grant us fresh revelation of who God is. I remember about 3 years ago before I started teaching here on faith-writers I use to go to church come home and watch TV from 1pm thru 8pm. I would watch baseball or football depending on the season then catch one of the home improvement channels or Pawn Stars because I usually find a lot of old stuff. And one day I heard the Holy Spirit say to me you spent 7 hours watching TV. Boy, did I feel guilty about wasting all that TIME.

You may say well brother you deserve a break every once in a while. Sure, I worked hard all week and I deserve to lay back and enjoy myself. Besides Iím watching positive things on TV, but it was becoming habitual. I didnít consider studying like I use too. Every now and then we slip into relax mode where we say to ourselves we know enough Scripture so we can chill out (Unconsciously)! Until we experience an awakening by the Holy Spirit. Then February 2011, the Holy Spirit told me to start teaching online like He showed me in a Dream back in 2000, and I found Faith-writers.

Redeeming the TIME

Many of us wish we can do over certain things in the past if we were young again. Being much wiser than yesterday can also allow us to see how much TIME we wasted or how foolish we were to let that situation pass us by without doing anything meaningful about it. It could have been marrying the right girl or guy; it could have been taking that particular job offer, or it could have been a missed opportunity to do something good for somebody or just bonding with our children the list is endless.

The King James Version says, Redeeming the TIME, because the days are evil. Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the Will of the Lord is (Eph.5:16-17 KJV)

The New International Version says, Making the MOST of every OPPORTUNITY , because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lordís Will is (Eph.5:16-17 NIV)

We have a clichť in sports when we are playing and make a mistake we say, (Man, you got to Redeem yourself!) So we go out of our way to take another jump shot or hit the baseball so we wonít look bad during the whole game. Well, we have to Redeem our TIME! How? By Making the Most of every Opportunity to serve God when we see an opportunity to be helpful to someone carrying heavy bags, or to open a door for someone, or to give someone a ride home in the car, or to give someone money when theyíre short to purchase an item or groceries. We may not have been the greatest parents but we could pray and ask God to reconnect us to our sons and daughters and begin allowing God to Redeem the relationship by building a new one. We need to Redeem our TIME by learning about a topic in Scripture that will take us to another spiritual level of living for God. Many TIMES we are walking unwisely toward learning to get closer to God.

I like the way the Amplified Bible said verse 15; Look carefully then how you walk! Live purposefully and worthily and accurately, not as the unwise and witless, but as wise (sensible, intelligent people) (Eph.5:15 AMP).

Iím amazed at how clueless many Christians are about their relationship to God. They donít even know where they are with God or what does God want them to do RIGHT NOW! I say this respectfully, I know Pastors and Deacons and Ministers who really donít know what they want to study or what does God want them to research. When I speak to them Iím praying in my mind as I listen to try to zero in to their spiritual condition or current circumstance and try to direct them as God grants me wisdom to share Scripture with them.

Paul made it clear to us and the Amplified Bible spelled it out;
1. Live purposefully, worthily and accurately.
2. Not unwisely or foolishly.
3. But wise, sensible, intelligent Christians.

We need to ask basic questions about who we are as Christians. If we are Christians what is a Christian suppose to do when it comes to parenting, working, being a great spouse, being a good Christian, being a Bible Teacher, an Evangelist, when it comes to seeking a girl or boy friend, or when it comes to praying, fasting or reading Scripture. How will the Bible help me when it comes to building a godly or Christian like attitude toward negative and unlovable people?

If some of these basic questions hit home with those of you who are reading this then I suggest that you look for articles that will teach you about the very thing you sense that God would like you to know so you can make the adjustments necessary to be in the perfect Will of God in that area.

For example, letís say the God is dealing with you about Fasting okay, go to the archives and I was led to write 6 articles about Fasting that will be helpful to you. I suggest that you start to read the earliest dated article, ďThe Secret of FastingĒ then read everyone after that. Then read other articles by other members to give you a well rounded teaching from all angles.

The same goes for any other topic I was led to share go to the earliest one and then read everyone after that if there are more parts to the topic. Letís be intelligent Christians in our approach to studying and researching Scripture because God desires to reveal His Will to us.

Another thing I would like to add if you desire to have any of these teachings for your personal handout email me at MVargas1320@yahoo.com and I will email a package where you can easily print them out to have as your personal notes. This is what I do for many ministers and Pastors. You donít have to be a Minister or a Pastor you just have to be hungry for God. I will email you any of the 123 articles I have written for free and all the other articles God will continue to lead me to write. I reread these articles myself and Iím always blessed when I do because they are very informative and powerful not because I wrote it but because God anointed me to write them.

Trust me Iím not the sharpest knife in the draw or the brightest bulb in the light fixture I was born and raised in the ghetto. Itís the anointing of the Holy Spirit that inspires me to write this way. The typos are my doing the total message is Godís doing amen.
